Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Good morning Dellie Lovers everywhere!

Cetawin, Athena is totally gorgeous-

If I ever show her picture to Ultrasuede, he will be looking for you-know-where in KY in the Atlas. . . . . hey, do you think your Fattie and my Lizzie look quite a bit a like?

Cynthia, thanks for saying that about Cora- she and Eleanor are (do I dare say it, knock on wood) my two best, I think. I agree, Ike is doing a great job! There are more than a few 5 point combs on the girls!

Kathy- your pop doors and ramps are great- I need to rework mine- do you mind telling me dimensions? My old and tired brain can't remember if you already said it.Gosh, your little biting boy is a cutie, but it does hurt, doesn't it? The girls pick a lot, but the only real biter I have is Luke- it's not consistant, but when he does it, he strikes like a snake- we are very cautious of each other-

Polly is really pretty, but Olive is stunning- and who is the hunka hunka with the rust colored cape in the second picture after the eggs?

Vexor- congratulations! You are in for it now, though, read and beware! and get thick gloves!

More sunshine today!

Thanks. I really do love my flock. I would be totally happy to just sit outside all day with them.

Patrick, Good luck on your hatch with Claudia's eggs. I have some of hers in the bator, too! That building is 33' long, and I think, 15' wide. This is the breeder barn (as we call it). We have 7 pens inside (6 are approx 8'x6' and one large one 15'x 8'). I was gonna have 8 pens, but I think I will leave the large one on the end, and maybe divide it later. The plan is to have each pen have a pop door to their own run.

Beth, those pop doors are not the same size. I had to cut them to whatever size there was a post to nail to. One is 15" x 19" and the other is 20" square. Oh boy, I am so proud of the door I made on one ... it was my second attempt, and I made it to slide up and down, with a pulley system. The other one is on hinges, and lifts up. Man, I have used sooooo much hardware on that build! The lumber yard knows me on a first name basis! LOL

I will take pictures of the inside when it is all done. I have lots and lots of painting to do, but had to move some of them in before I got it done. I used alot of salvaged lumber. DS and I tore down a couple old buildings for that.

HorseFeathers...I believe that my two Dellies, Cannonball & Fattie, would gouge my eyes out if I dared to put them in the wet stuff and humilitate them in such a fashion.....

However, Cannonball and Fattie both need baths.

Bathing Chickens? Isn't that something you only do if your showing them? Or they are injured? We use the rain here for baths......

Kathy you have a seriously gorgeous flock! And your barn is something to drool over.

I was out looking in my Adolescent brooder today. I definitely have 4 Mottled Java Roos out there. So almost ready to move into the uninsulated coop still with a heat lamp for cold nights we have 6 Mottled Java Hens, SawsAll (Hen), 1 White Java Hen, and 4 Mottled Java Roos. They are all 4-7 weeks now.

Ummmmm. . .. what exactly does the Dellie Dance of Desire look like? Luke is acting absolutely wierd.

Speaking of Luke:

Luke's tail: pretty, but is more black and white?

Buckshot I:

Buckshot I's tail - It has always had more charcoal and black barring, and is growing in even more so- you can see it really well in this picture.

Buckshot II and Luke together, Columbo behind them.

Laney- do you like your Javas? I know nothing about them- good layers?

Good layers, but not very social. Nothing like Delawares. They run from your touch even as newborn chicks. So I wouldn't raise them to be lap chickens. They are great foragers, and great layers. Good Dual purpose birds as they get very chunky, but not quite the size of the Delaware.

By the way, I love my Javas. They are a really neat breed. Very instictual, and mine are as sweet as pie. Yes, they can be a little standoff-ish but a good breed none the less.
