Ooooooh, Dutch. I think you are in for it. . . . .other people on here have told stories about roos getting cranky in their old age and ending up in freezer camp- I hope he shapes up! Rwoman, that was a good one! Cynthia, how many more chances does he get?

Speaking of biting- now that the ranks have been thinned out, the only problem I have with Luke is at night. He won't use the ramp, and if I need to go somewhere, I need him inside the coop. He objects to being picked up - I can live with that. So, so far, so good.

Jeremy, you are funny- vegetable garden indeed!

Cetawin, when do you pack up the computer? Or are you staying in touch with us during the trip so we know you are safe and sane?

Kathy- no kitty yet. I don't have a lot of hope, since he is declawed and dumber than a post. We have been over and over and over our property, calling. I won't give up yet, so please keep your fingers crossed. And I figure if those little chicken bodies sit in the freezer for a month, I will have forgotten what their little faces looked like, and I'll get out my own Dutch oven.....

Good Morning Del fans. Final count 6 EE's and 7 Dels. I'm happy. I rescued the last one against my own advice but she seems strong. I really need a barn. I wonder when tornado season is in Kansas, maybe one will drop in. Heck I'd even take a fixerupper. Lord have mercy. Gotta go have coffee.

LOL@ Tim, Jeremy and Germaine! Y'all are cracking me up first thing this morning! Dang, Tim, I hate that you only ended up with 7 out of all those eggs, but hopefully, there'll be some good ones in that bunch.

Well Cynthia you are so much nicer than I am when it comes to attacking roos! After my sweet Lav Orp decided for about the 20th time to challenge me by actually flying up at me with his spurs loaded I was not going to deal with it, fertilized eggs or not.

So I grabbed him by his neck as he charged and then hoisted that huge body up and took him over to the roo coop with instruction yelled out quite clearly and loudly for the boys to beat the crap out of him.

I didn't know they would follow my instructions so well when I chucked him in there... I had to walk away after the first 5 minutes because they all did beat him up. So bad that he hid for 5 days under the pallet they use for steps up to the coop. I thought he might not make it because he wouldn't come out to eat or drink.

But he finally found his pecking order in there and is no longer top dog and when I go it to feed and water he doesn't even come close!

Guess who my protector is in the roo coop? My Del rooster. He always stands right by me and chases all the other roos away.

LadyHawk... how is the tooth? How is your girl? I will be thinking about you over the next week and sending you good vibes that all goes as hoped with the move.

Good job Tim on the babies! What a fun mix. I really think EE's are underappreciated. They are so pretty! And 7 Del babies! You are going to love love love them.

Beth, I am sorry about the kitty.

You know I've recently read that it's good to turn eggs while storing them to go in the incubator, maybe if we put "please turn every 4 hours" on the box, the Post Office might do that. Naahhh, I guess not.

LOL you know, I really need to lower the number of my chickens and had thought "could the Dels be one of them?" I just can't do it. They may not be a fancy smancy breed but they are so sweet and curious and fun to be around. Just have to keep em.

Probably the Turkens, Favs and Cochins.

I have 8 breeds of hens and my Dels even the hatchery girls are easy going. The CM's are french snobs and always want snails. The Orpingtons (English) want their privacy, you'd think they were royalty. They lay an egg and you'd think they had the crown jewels under their bum. The Aussies are rowdy, and keep getting in trouble by going "outback" near the danger zone woods. The Dominiques, have hot blooded tempers. You should have seen the broody hen, I think she would have chased me around the room if I hadn't backed off. Think of Sophia Loren when Cary Grant made her mad, in House Boat. Ungrateful wench! The SLW and GLW, are selfish w/ the eggs, I swear their holding back. I only have one Bantam Friz and she's real sweet, I admit I've thought of making her a house bird. Of course she only comes running when I have food. But the Dels are All American birds.

Oh and Nick my Del roo is nicer than Eric the CM roo. Eric is young and comes out of that coop at run for the first girl who can't get out of his way fast enough. The way he chases the girls it will take a month of Sundays to tenderize him in the stew pot.
