Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Well, I am about to experience something new .... well sorta new. I helped my parents, as a teenager, process chickens, but have never done it since then. On Sunday, my neighbor and I are gonna process about 20 roosters. Some are huge, others less so. Either way, it should make some nice freezer filler and good eatin'. I think I will mark each package with the breed, to see if there is really a taste difference.

*grabs Kathy and shakes her while stating the obvious* It ALL tastes just like chicken!

<------ is eggcited I have gotten the underground lines set for marking...power, water and phone will have them all marked by the 28th....Hopefully no lines are running where I want to dig for the new coop.

I notice Joletabey's Del eggs and wondered why my Dels lay spotted egg? Some of them look as though they have purple spots. These are the Western NY girls. I have one who laid really funny large and weird shaped eggs but that ceased for some reason. I have one hatchery Del who lays pink.

Anyone know why.

That is an interesting question...my first instinctive thought is that is a throw back from the original breeds crossed to make up the Delaware either historically or from the birds' individual heritage.

Odd shaped ones are not unusual but hopefully someone with more experience can answer the spot and color question for you. Pics might help too. I know the egg my Cannonball came from had spots on it which Cyn told me was usual for Phoebe...bet she has an answer for you.

Speaking of eggs .... for the first time .... I got 6 eggs today, from the 6 Del pullets! So, I now know they are all laying! Yipppppeeeee!

Lady Hawk, Make sure you document all this construction with lots of pictures for us! I am so excited for you!

Blued butt.

And the boy...

He would NOT stand normally at any angle or area of the yard, spring has sprung and he's nuts.

I'll share more when I upload to photo bucket and can do it easier.

I'm particularly proud of Coyote Ugly - people will forever wonder if I meant the homely construction or the turkeys within it...

Eat Mor Pig, is the sign on the front of the coop, I remodeled an old hog shed to make the coop.

It'll Do was made from the dog kennel, pallets and some tarps. Self explanatory.

They're safe and it's worth it. But we are talking about moving them inside the electric fence line for more protection. I swear that one is going to be almost level and plumb.

Shed, garage and basement for giant self designed coop?????? Good trade.

This is not a chicken, it's in my rubbermaid garden shed....
