I have pictures! I have 6 new Delaware chicks. I put them all with one broody, and the other 2 broodies are still sitting. One broody really is not due for another day or two, as I remember she started after the first 2. Anyway, here are the new babies ....
Hope mine hatch next week. And I am going to let the mama hen raise them as long as she will. Cyn told me that sometimes the hen will "reject" them around 3-5 weeks old. Guess they will be old enough then to fend for themselves. I have one broody in a pen by herself and the other 2 in one of the big 6ft x 8ft coops....I'm hoping they can peacefully co-exist once the little ones hatch as I really dont have another place to isolate one.
Both of the broodies in the long rabbit hutch (separated by wire) are calling the chicks to them. I think the chicks are confused and going back and forth. So, what I did was ...... I put up a piece of cardboard over the wire, so the one that is still sitting can't see the chicks. They seem to have calmed down now, and broody #1 is doing well with the chicks at this point, and the other broody is sitting quietly.
So precious! Nugget is still being an excellent mom to her three little Suedelettes. Had to put her in the Firetower pen this afternoon. One of the little ones went through a small dip under the garden fence and couldn't figure out how to get back out to mama. DH rescued it.
