Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Hey!!! No chickie pics yet?????

Well, if you insist ....

The Mega-Hatchathon is in progress.
First out (as usual) are the Olive Eggers (mama is hatchery Easter Egger and papa is Marans[blue or black copper]), next we have 3 Delawares out and about 20 more pips, 3 Jersey Giants out, a couple of reddish yellow chicks (eggs of a friend) that I wonder what are! This is the first time I have gotten a chipmonky looking Olive Egger. I love the blues!
First out .....

Thank you, Kathy!!! They are sweeties- I like the silvery shimmer on the one standing next to the cute little redhead. The olive egger thing is fascinating- I have not seen one of the eggs in person, but the pics sure are pretty!

Scott, what are your broodies up to?

Good morning all you wonderful Dellie people, and good morning to all your wonderful chickens!!!!!!!!

Happy Friday all....

My broodies are done hatching and hatch was poor to say the least. I guess maybe first timers didn't really understand exactly what to do. What hatched were 2 dels (unfortuntely 1 was killed by mean ol' mammy) and 2 "black looking chicks" from Kathy's eggs. I'm hoping maybe they are just really dark lavender. At any rate, they are still cute running around with mama.

Sugar had 2 chicks (a del and a "black chick") and Cora had 1 black chick. Soooooo, I gave Cora 2 BRs that had hatched 3 days earlier and I gave 1 to Sugar. Both "adopted" the new babies like a champ so both are mothering 3 little ones right now. They are not letting the little ones out from underneath them much, but I will get pix as soon as I can. Sugar was up this morning, out of the nest, chicks under her wings, and she appeared to be talking to them about eating from the chick feeder. Cora was still snuggled up in the nest.

Headed to the Dr this AM to make sure I have no "rocks" in my head (Beth, I had an MRI last yr that was clear....but who knows, right). If that checks out ok, then I am going to try finding and acupuncturist to see about these blasted headaches.

I'm coaching travel baseball (Colby's team) all weekend in a tournament in Dalton, Ga so I will be busy, busy with that. Game tonight at 815pm, then games Saturday at 1145am, 130pm and 645pm. Bracket play will start on Sunday. Hopefully I'll get at least Monday to be at home piddling around.

Hope everyone is well. My business meeting yesterday was GREAT and looks to be moving forward rapidly. Could be a multi-million $ account for me!

Stay safe and cool!!

Talk to y'all later

Scott,
Those blacks have to be from the black hen, covered by Lavender roo. I don't understand why none of the pure Lavenders hatched. I have hatched a couple out today, but I set most for next week.

Thankfully, the new mama will be here tonight to pick up all of these (except the Delawares)!

Evening all....

Scott, I sure hope you get these headaches taken care of...I know the pain of them can be bad. Take care of yourself. I am so glad Sugar and Cora have some babies to raise, sounds like they are good mamas. Mean ole Mammy needed the butt whippin she got from the girls.

Kathy those babies are so cute....I really like that silvery baby.

Hey all,

Just popping in to say Hey. Not much in Chicken news except I think that SawsAll has started to lay. We are getting some Speckled Delaware type eggs all of a sudden....The only other near POL hen would be Pebbles, and as a Java I don't expect her to lay until about 26 weeks or so as they are slow growers. I also don't expect any speckles.

Scott, as a HUGE migraine sufferer, I'm going to suggest ACV. Take some of the Cider Vinegar and place it on a paper towel, cotton ball, or whatever and rub it on your fore head, and sinuses. It works as an anti-inflammatory. I have to take anti-seizure meds every day to prevent migraines or I'd have them 4 times a week. It might not make the headache go away completely (although it is possible) but it sure makes it easier to live with. Also, you'll smell good too~

The weather was better today and I managed to get a few pictures of my mob without my shoes....they are 13 weeks

It felt soooo good

Good morning, Dellie lovers everywhere! Hope you all have a fun and wonderful Saturday!

Lotsapaints- fun pictures, thank you for sharing.

You have some nice chunky kids- I forget how old you said they were?

Kathy- thank you for the chickie pix- nice to get my fix so early in the morning! I hope all the Dels make it out.

Laney- I will keep your advice to Scott about ACV in mind also- I don't get migraines often, but when I do. . . . they are doozies. I sure don't envy those of you who get them frequently! And YAY for SawsAll, laying! She is one special girl-

Scott- keep us updated on the DR's visit, please- I hope it is nothing but stress- I mean you HAVE been off to China and other exotic places recently!

Can I please, please, please sneak an Orp question in here?
hide.gif

I have asked on the Orp thread, but have not gotten an answer ( I know, I know, be more patient) I don't understand splash. Thor is the only splash I have really "know". Cetawin, how much color differentiation does he have, and do you know if it matters how much they have? Thor, on my computer anyway, looks like this beautiful impressionistic dream of melting shades of blue, sort of like a streaky sky. Someone posted a picture of their banty splash Orp and he had black splotches all over. The poster didn't know what the variation is supposed to be, either. Is it a wide range, like how wide the shades of blue range? (Cetawin, you KNOW I adore Thor- he feels like family)

ALSO, a Dellie question for the day - do any of your Del roos go bonkers when you first let them out in the morning? Luke chases the girls everywhere, grabbing them by the neck, making them scream, and then Ultrasuede gets mad at him and chases him all over the place. It takes a few minutes for things to settle down. This morning it was so bad that Luke ALMOST pecked my leg- he caught himself in time, thankfully. It doesn't look like he is just. . . ..amorous ..... (sp?) after being locked up all night- he seems furious. AND it's making the girls avoid him. When he does try to mate later on, they wiggle out from underneath him and run. Any suggestions?

Basically, a splash looks like a pearly white bird, sometimes with a lbluish tinge, with "accent" feathers. Some of those can be black, some bluish. The only splash I have here is my Ameraucana, Snow. She has very few accent feathers at all. Here is Snow, for comparison to Thor:

Cynthia, thank you for the answer and the pictures. She is beautiful- I really like the splashes- and now I know that it's kind of "free to be me" concerning the splash marks.

They are not in the SOP, and the Orp threads don't have much for pictures unless I am not using the search correctly.
