Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Pics of our Delawares. The first is Bob, our rooster. It's the only rooster we got our of our first Delaware hatch from eggs we got on ebay. Behind him is one of our polish hens. We have 3 we keep in with the Delawares. It's easy to tell the eggs apart!

New hatch today at two weeks. Looks like 4 roos & 1 hen... plus the banty that the kids snuck in the incubator! A littly blurry because they didn't want to hold still for their pic to be taken!

Oh so sad it didn't work out like you hoped was this her first time hatching? I totally understand how a good hen would be worth her weight in gold it's the getting one trained that's seems tricky. I have a friend who's hen is over 10 yrs old will hatch out chicks almost anytime and she still lays an egg every once in a while...I am understanding why she's so special. Mother Nature is just plain ole mean sometimes but if these hens are learning the ropes then losses are going to happen in any livestock first timers have a learning curve some get very good I sure hope yours do

It was a glorious day here today. The birds have been happily ranging around and getting into mischief.

DeDe is something else. She has not been aggressive towards the youngsters at all and there is only a wire divider separating them in the dog crate. I even caught her pushing scrambled egg through the divider to the babies. So sweet.

Yes it sure would...but DeDe is waging her own battle right now. The battle of wills. Her will to NOT BE TOUCHED and Cheyenne's will to touch her, hold her, pet her cuddle her...

Love, Love, Love the pictures Cetawin.

Was a beautiful day today with high temp of 89. What a change. The chickens are so much happier--no panting and they ran around the yard much happier today. I sat with them til 8:45 when the last one made their way to the coop. I read a book with Lizzie on my shoulder, enjoyed a lovely sunset, and one of the best days in weeks.

ChksontheRun it was beautiful here today too and I loved being outside with the flock and taking the babies out for the day. They are all crashed out now after all the excitement.

I put a thread up in pictures of chickens...almost everyone came over and checked out the babies.

Cyn - DeDe looks so thrilled doesn't she?

She is really being a good girl though and all of us are very pleased with her. even DH thinks she is beautiful and big. He is all in agreement with getting her a pair of panties though to cover her bare backside...he says "modesty & decorum are a must for any lady"

She turned her back to us and we got a full moon from Miss DeDe...so tomorrow she gets panties.

That last shot sure shows her spurs!

Oh, my Delaware ladies are also fascinated with chicks. They've never gone broody, but there's plenty of time for that, especially since I currently have two first-time broodies who are both over two years old.

Tammy,
These are just lovely pictures! Thanks so much for sharing them with us. Are those your daughters? I just love that picture! Your rooster, Bob, looks like a big fella ! New hatch with 4 roos and only 1 little girl? Oh my gosh, you sound like me! I am very good at hatching roosters. We are gonna have to talk to fellow BYCer Miss Ellie .... I read that she hatches out all the little girls!

Things did not go well for my Del broody.

Oh no! That is just so sad. That is just what my 3 broodies at once did .... each one killed the first chick hatched! I don't know why, and thought it was so weird that all three of them did that!

Cetawin,
Those are great pictures! Cheyenne is just a gorgeous girl!
