YaaaaHooooo, Go Harriet ! ! !

here's some baby pics for you they are now 19 weeks I've picked one Roo for now "The Boss" and that's just how he is he watches over the 12 week olds that are next to him it's pretty cute when the hawks keep flying over I don't see him sharing much with anybody they do love their treats. This weekend I will separate the breeds the hens combs are starting to get red so I'm hoping that within a month I'll be getting some eggs.

Lotsapaints, your Rooster there sure has a handsome face. I miss seeing my mature roosters around here. But, soon enough I will have more.

Joletabey!!! I love that picture of Cyn and Cetawin

I hope you ladies had fun with your visit.

I'm sorry I have been gone... forever. I got a new job to help me pay with things, and the hot temperatures here have been none too pleasant. I lost one Delaware Cockerel to the heat, I believe. I hope he wasn't the better one of the bunch, but that seems to happe to me every time. I have pictures for you to see, but my camera chord went missing... Again. If the dogs chewed it... they are in trouble and are going to work for it!! No, I wont make them to that.

All three of the Delaware pullets I decided to keep have beautiful barred tails that I wish their Daddy had had. It's kind of funny. The four boys I have left have light/ kinda dark tails and not too bad on the markings. One of them, I call him Goli, stands much taller and wider that the others. By wider, I mean his chest, LOL! He is the one I'm going to keep, but there is another one who isn't far off from him. So we will see

I hope all of you have a wonderful day, well, night now. Paaz, good luck with your beautiful girl. She will love the attention.

HA she wants us to go the HELLO away and let her out of that crate. Something scared her or startled her and she somehow got a tiny scratch/abrasion/cut on her face right at the base of her comb and it dropped some blood droplets on the sheet....when I saw blood droplets I FREAKED! I pulled her out and gave her the once over and she was NOT pleased with my examination whatsoever and clucked madly at me. She got real testy when I cleaned her face and put bag balm on little scrap.

I think the ducks raising cane on the other side of the door startled her because I heard them going off and went down to check and that is when I saw the blood droplets and it was fresh but quickly clotting.

She scared me to death...I can see me calling you to say Delilah commited suicide in the doggie crate

Ah tomorrow is another day and all will be well...she is fine BTW the silly girl.

Night night

Candled my Del eggs last night--Day 3, I know it is early, but I just had to see if anything was going on. Saw Dark spot in all eggs that wasnt there when I set them. I am assuming that is good. I couldn't see veins in any, but I think my flashlight was not strong enough. I will wait till day 6 with a stronger flashlight and see what I see then. I so want to get some of these to hatch. 18 more days seems like forever.......

Delgirl- I am so sorry you lost a roo! This heat has been awful. I hope you find your camera cord, I would like to see pictures of Goli and the others. After seeing Isaac, I realize Luke looks more like him than I remember- he has the same posture and expression- it's really fun to see if they resemble a parent or not. Are you working two jobs?

Lotsa- that looks like a really nice comb on that boy-and looks like he will have nice hackle markings when all is said and done- I keep finding out that, as Cynthia keeps saying, they change SO much and it takes a while to tell what they will really look like.

Chks- I think we are on the same time schedule - sweat with me, please!!! Harriet is still sitting pretty. I doubt whether I will get the chance to candle, though, she has only gotten off them once. And since I have never candled anything in my life, I wouldn't know what I was doing anyhow!

I hope you get a good hatch!

Cetawin, glad Miss DeDe is OK- that would have scared me to death, too.

Good morning, everyone - IT'S GOING TO BE COOLER TODAY!

Seems like there are many broody hens I so hope all goes well as for candling it's so hard to wait a week or 10 days I look early too not that I can tell for sure either. I love those pictures with the babies peeking out so keep your camera charged Good Luck

Things did not go well for my Del broody. She hatched out one chick and then got off the remaining 5 eggs. I think because the first chick couldn't get back in the nest. I put the chick back in and she got on the eggs and I thought things would go ok. Upon checking later I found she and the chick were cannibalizing an unhatched chick. I don't know why. I removed the chicks and it was alive but not savageable. I removed the other 4 eggs and put them in with two determined broodies who I've been trying to break.
This morning I checked and found a dead chick and one squashed in the shell.
I left the last to eggs with them as I have no where to put them and can only hope things go well.
All I can say is @#$$%!
