Thanks

Gerbil, they look positively adorable. Though I don't know much about Dellies myself, beyond the fact that I'd love to have some. But for right now, I have to content myself with drooling all over everyone else's birds!

Just no more room at the Inn at this time!

No apologies are necessary. This is the Delaware thread after all. Cynthia has simply had one of those weeks you see, and we're just trying to be there for her and help her get through these trying times. Being a chicken person yourself, you can probably appreciate a "One of those weeks" scenarios!

Cyn: That is good news! Oh how I hope he can keep the toenail!

You did say it is on his rear toe, right? At least they don't really need that one for scratching about all that much. At least, I've never seen any of mine employ the rear toe when digging in the garden or anywhere else.

I could be wrong. Do you suppose the blackness under the inner nail indicates clotted blood? Or do you think the flesh has gone necrotic? Oh how I hope it's just a simple blood clot and will slough off in time.

Gerbil she is adorable but her legs should be yellow they lighten after they start laying but they should be very yellow as youngsters. I do not know if she would show well or not....depends on if the judge had any idea what he was really looking at.

Here are my Dellie's legs at different ages:

2 am I am awake, getting coffee, showering and heading to Sarah's (scbatz33) to hopefully kill some possum, coons, fox and/or coyotes...whatever comes through that kills chickens is getting shot if I have a clear shot. So...see you all in a few hours!

Is it possible that they might turn yellow in the next few weeks? The little scales on their legs are tuning yellow, especially on one of the roosters. They just turned 6 weeks yesterday.

Thank all of you for the info, and even if they aren't show chickens they will be wonderful pet chickens.

P.s Cute baby chick.

Gerbil, mine had bright yellow legs from day one. The tendency is for the legs to fade as they get older and start laying. I have no idea if yours will darken, but I don't think I have heard of that-
It's hard to tell at that age whether they are show quality or not- they change so incredibly much and I discovered that even at 8 months mine are still changing. Just hang on and see how they develop. Body type is most important, so you want them to be chunky and round, full breasted birds. You want barred tails on the roos and black tail feathers on the hens, and the hackling is a light barring on both, and it's hard to tell when they are young exactly how much or how clearly defined their markings will be. The beaks should not have dark coloration on them. Combs are single 5 points- wing set is horizontal- just keep your eyes open to see if they are developing those traits for starters.
They have the SWEETEST expressions, and they will mind control you no matter how good they look, so enjoy them!

Isaac and Riley make CUTE babies!

Cetawin - you get anything?

Oh no, nothing happened to Thor or Fattie or Cannonball or Athena or worse yet Cheyenne or her DH????

AGH!!!!! Now I am going to sit here and worry over her!
