Show off your Delawares! *PIC HEAVY*

Kristen; they are good foragers... and they know it! LOLz

Cynthia, thanks. Had to take a closer look. Yeah; personal experience says the 2"x4" stuff doesn't stop chicks.

I had a Dellie hen named Maxie, may she rest in peace, who bellowed like a cow. Seriously. She'd get started and go on and on, stretching out her neck for more volume. I miss her so much, but she was affectionately known as The Mouth of the South. A guy replacing our well pump 200 ft down the driveway asked if he was hearing a chicken. I said, yup, it's just Maxie. The others are very quiet.

I've got 3 girls in particular who just scream right before and just after they lay an egg. They don't just sing an egg song, they belt out an egg opera...

I'm a bit concerned about my neighbors too, I mean my rooster doesn't even make that much noise!

I laugh/snorted when I read that.

I really don't know what to do with her. I mean, I love her and all, but dear lord she's annoying!!!

Joletabey, I'm glad the eggs are large. I like to hatc ha good-sized egg because I know the chick will be healthy. I can't wait to order some!!

I had a Dellie hen named Caulk. She was quiet as can be until she laid an egg, and then I thought she was a rooster, lol.

Speckledhen, Tasha is beautiful. I bet she will be a great girl

Lizzie, one of my best Del layers, is in the horse barn right now, as she cannot live with those brutal roosters. I can hear her in the house when she goes to lay an egg, or when she thinks I don't have breakfast out there fast enough in the mornings. I am thinking she might be Maxie's daughter, Cyn. It echoes in the barn!

I'll have to post a pic of little Maxie when I get home. Shes just small enought to get out of the dog kennel pen I have her in and if she doesnt stop getting out she might not live long. I just barely got her from the dog the other day before he could run off with her. Wife said she was out again yesterday. The gap in the kennel door is to big and I am going to take care of that this wkend.

Has anyone had a problem with a del rooster being overly agressive to the girls? I noticed that my lowest ranking rooster has been giving one of the BA girls a rough time. Tonight it has gotten so bad that I had to spray blue kote on her neck. I want to separate the roo and put him in the food storage area but the temps are already negative 2 with the wind chill. Tomorrow it is supposed to be the coldest yet with a wind chill of negative 20. If you check out my coop link you can see that the storage area is in the coop so the roo won't really be alone. He just won't have any other chicken to snuggle for body heat. What do you think I should do?
