Show off your Peas!

I don't think it's position in pecking order it could be but what I think about why the three are going at each other is nesting area. Right where Thor and Calypso are is right where Jadea's last year nest was and I think she wants it back, Jadea spends most of her time everyday for the past two weeks staring and trying to find a way to get in the same pen as Thor and Calypso. Calypso is aggressive that's for sure Thor only has one crest feather now. With another one coming in. I guess the one thing I'm stuck on are those feathers that look like a premature green patch when they get older turns into that green patch right behind the peacock's head when fanning.
I don't believe it is a nest issue your other 2 hens aren't old enough to lay much less nest, are they together with the older hen? i believe it is a pecking order issue and it is perfectly normal among peahens of all ages.

Could have kicked myself for not remembering that, all my spaldings have darker legs than the IB's have, they are not uniform Chirpie's are darker than Mojo's even though they are full brothers, but both are darker than the IB's.

So maybe darker legs are a common indicator of a spalding bird? I am going to start looking at breeder website's spalding birds and see if they all have dark legs. I know it probably won't work for white spaldings though.

I know but what I mean by nesting is Jadea wants her nest and Thor and Calypso try to attack her to tell her that it's their area now. They are separated. She's only being doing this for 2 to 3 weeks now so not very long. That's why I'm thinking it's territory and nest issue. I know for pecking order just about everybody fights but Colbolt doesn't show any interest. I would give Jadea's nest back but first I need to get a pen for Thor and Calypso so I can keep working with them for fair and then Jadea and Colbolt can have the entire chicken coop. When I'm going to get my purple peachicks I will let the guy know that he has some Spalding blood somewhere in his flock and I would prefer to have some pure IB Pied without Spalding blood. I want pure IB Pied that's what I wanted. I'm surprised my parents are letting me expand on my peafowl flock. Probably because my dad wants eggs and both my parents like the train feathers and my mom is curious on purple peafowl.

Adult peacocks, like Colbolt, don't have to really fight for the pecking order when the other birds are peahens or yearling peacocks. The adult peacocks (at least from what I have seen) are always at the top of the pecking order. They rarely take part in peahen squabbles (sometimes they break up fights). Peahens will fight amongst themselves trying to sort out their own pecking order. Sometimes they do this every year at the start of the breeding season, this especially happens when young birds become older and thus their ranking can change and the young from last year have to fight for a spot too. Yearling peacocks have it very rough. Even peahens can boss them around. At two years old they often make a stand against the peahens and will then finally outrank the peahens and get respect. Generally the older the bird the higher their ranking in the pecking order. Young peahens can get picked on by older peahens, but of course since your girl Calypso is a Spalding, she might have more fight in her and the situation could be different.

I'm assuming Spaldings do have more fight. I think I remember that a Spalding's face is a different shape then an IB. I'm looking at Thor's face and kind of thinking maybe Thor's a Spalding maybe not. I will try and get some photos of his face and let you guys decide.

Some Spaldings have more of a triangular shaped face, some have more of a rounded face like an India Blue. It all goes back to the varying looks of Spaldings and how some will be tall, some Spalding peahens will have a green train, etc. Each Spalding bird has it's own mix of features from India Blues and Greens.

Some of them are hard to believe that they are Spaldings because they look so much like a green peafowl, while others are hard to believe that they are Spaldings because they look so much like an India blue.
Her face...

Oh goodness let's not start this again! Time will tell and we know that no mater how many times we say Thora it won't work until Birdrain sees for himself once Thor is older. I am just glad that now he sees that Calypso is a Spalding.
