Bird man why don't you just put it in there water? That's what I do none of my peacocks have ever had worms. I find the more I have to chase after and handle birds the LESS tame they become so paranoid bcus they don't know if ur gonna just start chasing them and handling them. What I do for all my birds chickens ducks peacocks etc. I just get a chair and sit there everyday for as long as possible that way they become used to your presence and sometimes I'll put food in front if me that'll help to!!
Oh haha I see when I worm my birds I put them in a special pen one at a time with the right amount of worming for the bird in a small water has worked for me for the past 4 years lol maybe I'm just luckyHave you actually had a fecal float performed to check for worms in your Peafowl?
Many Peas have died of worms after being wormed in this manner, it has been proven to not be very effective unfortunately. It takes a specific amount of wormer for a specific # of days to do the trick and when diluted in a bucket of water we have no way of knowing if they are getting enough to be effective. You need to keep in mind that a pea can have worms for a long time without showing any physical signs of having them.
The old wives tale he is referring to is the idea that worming in water is effective. We keep telling people it is not, but until they lose one to worms they do not believe us.

No I haven't up until now I've never heard of that lol I'll have to do it soon!! This is all new info for me I've always just been told to stick it in the water and go lol I'll do some more research and I'll try to do it orally next time! That's great, but again I have to ask, have you had a fecal float to see if they are actually worm free? I know people who have had Peas for years and never wormed them, they also don't necropsy when they die, they allow the worms to keep the population in check, these folks also say they don't lose them to worms, however they obviously have no idea what they lost them to and do not care. I have had fecals run on mine and found worm eggs still present after worming in water, but the Peas still looked fat and sassy. I now worm orally as often as I can. I have had a lot of worms in my chickens and putting the wormer in their water does nothing, I have to do it orally or you can see the worms squirming in the poop they get that bad.
I used to put it in my chickens water with safeguard...but as of right now every 100 birds I got get handled and get effective doses right down there mouth that way I know I have done my part...I used to think putting it in there water was a good way also...but when you see the white stuff at the bottom of the bowl after they drink up the water you think to yourself how good did they get wormed...so I did more research and with the lovely people on here and hours of reading I found it to be better for the birds and I found out what doses to give each bird...im not playing around with my health of my birds, I take pride in my birds, and im not just gunna wing it and hope for the best...every bird here is bought and paid for out of my pocket and I cant see a bird go down because of my negligence....I have never had a bird (other then a chicken) go down randomly...I don't chase my birds and after I handle the birds they come right back up to me....for example this bird...I know its not a peacock...but how many people can do this with their pheasants...point proven ...not manyBird man why don't you just put it in there water? RIGHT.......Have you actually had a fecal float performed to check for worms in your Peafowl?

when you put them in a special pen you still have to move them and handle them....and separating them from social activities and putting them into solo chambers might be worse off for the bird...and like was mentioned have there been any fecal tests done...you might have great looking birds....filled with worms and are showing no signs of worms or the symptoms...I don't have time to play around with luck....if I do my best and give accurate doses and then something happens then I know that nature just took the bird....and not me playing Russian roulette....Oh haha I see when I worm my birds I put them in a special pen one at a time with the right amount of worming for the bird in a small water has worked for me for the past 4 years lol maybe I'm just lucky
supposed to get them this coming weekend...and in addition...there is 4-6 year old males ib for 85 bucks....this guy just had open heart surgery and is getting rid of his entire flock...(different city and different guy then the other old guy..) im getting two of his female ib hens that are 4 years....for 65 bucks if he hasn't sold them already...I know hes gotten rid of most of his birds already...and the original old guy with the buddy birds doesn't know if he wants to sell his birds anymore....so well see....cash does have a swing to it when put infront of someones eyes...so well see...I wish your ambition was contagious. Your birds are looking good. Did you end up getting the birds from the old guy in WI?
I can see u care about ur birds like I said all this info is completely new to me was just trying to help lol that is a very pretty pheasant btw!!!!!!!!!I used to put it in my chickens water with safeguard...but as of right now every 100 birds I got get handled and get effective doses right down there mouth that way I know I have done my part...I used to think putting it in there water was a good way also...but when you see the white stuff at the bottom of the bowl after they drink up the water you think to yourself how good did they get wormed...so I did more research and with the lovely people on here and hours of reading I found it to be better for the birds and I found out what doses to give each bird...im not playing around with my health of my birds, I take pride in my birds, and im not just gunna wing it and hope for the best...every bird here is bought and paid for out of my pocket and I cant see a bird go down because of my negligence....I have never had a bird (other then a chicken) go down randomly...I don't chase my birds and after I handle the birds they come right back up to me....for example this bird...I know its not a peacock...but how many people can do this with their pheasants...point proven ...not many![]()
I don't rush them chase them ...I take my time giving less stress to the birds....and if it has to take me all day then so be it....I know my peafowl arnt as friendly to me as they should cause I havnt spent the time with them like I should...but give me time and it will be done...I have close to a hundred birds...and once the peas are in their pens I will have time to socialize with them and get them tame... RIGHT....... when you put them in a special pen you still have to move them and handle them....and separating them from social activities and putting them into solo chambers might be worse off for the bird...and like was mentioned have there been any fecal tests done...you might have great looking birds....filled with worms and are showing no signs of worms or the symptoms...I don't have time to play around with luck....if I do my best and give accurate doses and then something happens then I know that nature just took the bird....and not me playing Russian roulette....
like everyone is saying most people don't get the birds the right amount using water...just for example....for safeguard I used 2 1/3 tbspn in one gallon with the chickens for five straight days and everynight when I went out there there was a white chaulky residue on the bottom...that would be the safeguard ....which wasn't in the birds....I will never use water for giving the wormers....I might find great deals with peafowl but I don't have the time to wait another four years for them to reproduce....and then have to track down another specific bird...as you can see im on here all the time and spend many hours researching and contacting new people for different types of birds....and within 8 months I have close to a hundred breeders prolly more all over the country that I have spoke to and know what they breed and what they currently have on hand...to me people on here are bird lovers and for them to steer people in one direction for the benefit of that animals longevity and you as the person responsible for the quality of the bird decide to go a different way...don't be surprised when something does happen and then you find out....man I should have....in my situation I look at it like this.....man I did this right and nothing has happened bad since so I might be doing something right with the help of the people on here...if you follow my threads you know that one of my chickens was sick...I took her in and got on byc and within 24 hours she was fixed and within another 24 hours she was back in the flock with the help of people on here and learning how to tube feed...I think I have come along way in a short period of time learning....and IM THANKFUL FOR EVERYONE ON THIS SITE....that's y I have no problem giving back to people on this site...like a lady that just came over and I gave her some of my baby chicks for free....and another person who I am giving free eggs to....(she is hoping to be on the cover of the Martha stuart magazine with some of the eggs....)so thanks again everyone for all the knowledge and help...as you can see im listeningI can see u care about ur birds like I said all this info is completely new to me was just trying to help lol that is a very pretty pheasant btw!!!!!!!!!
