Show off your Peas!

I hatched several spaldings last year and I didn't notice any more yellow on the faces. The spaldings do not breed true and therefore siblings can have differences in coloring. I did have 1 male who seemed a darker brown, but the rest didn't look any darker than IBs. I did notice a size difference they were a little bigger and it seemed they had a more upright stance, making them look taller than the non-spalding chicks. Here are 2 pics of Chirpy and Opie, Chirpie is a spalding and Opie is of course an opal, bot males. they were a couple days old in these pics but you can see the size difference.

Chirpie and Opie are darling!!! To die for!

But of course, all Peachicks are to die for.

I just got back from feeding the peafowl. Frosty is looking great now (he was acting sick). Today it is very beautiful outside and after I fed the peafowl they all found a place to lay down and relax. Peep was the only one that didn't lie down. He was following me around pecking at me while I was trying to get good photos. His pecking pretty much meant "Pet me and give me attention." so every now and then I would stop and pet him and talk to him I got a few photos of him too.

Just like at Zaz's the crab apple in the bird aviary is blooming too. The flowers are pretty, but they smell really weird. It isn't a pretty smell.

Frosty's train feathers

Frosty and his sister Shyanne chowing down on some turkey starter mixed with medicated water.

Cat's claw vine - This does smell good!

Damsel and Frosty relaxing. I am glad they both get along. They are going to be a breeding pair.

Ice, Damsel, and Smarty. When Damsel would move off to lay somewhere else Smarty would follow her. He loves his mom!

Best friends Snow White and Shyanne.

Peep getting some petting.

Almost all of the peafowl are in this photo...Peep is still on the perch where I was petting him but everyone else is in this photo. You can see the little cliques in this photo. To the left we have the whites in their own group, to the right we have Damsel, her son, and the father Alto. Alto seems to favor Damsel. Then Ice is off to the side. She is dominant but she doesn't really have a specific group.

Looks like spring time in FL. I wish we had some trees blooming up here. The Peas look beautiful and quite content as well.

Jadea, Thor, and Calypso are going at each other. Colbolt is fanning his train. Don't worry I believe Spring is on it's way because of this. Colbolt has the bump on the back of his neck.

I know you don't agree, but I think you have 3 hens who are now competing for position in the pecking order. This would explain why they are going at each other. IMO

I don't think it's position in pecking order it could be but what I think about why the three are going at each other is nesting area. Right where Thor and Calypso are is right where Jadea's last year nest was and I think she wants it back, Jadea spends most of her time everyday for the past two weeks staring and trying to find a way to get in the same pen as Thor and Calypso. Calypso is aggressive that's for sure Thor only has one crest feather now. With another one coming in. I guess the one thing I'm stuck on are those feathers that look like a premature green patch when they get older turns into that green patch right behind the peacock's head when fanning.

If it is the nesting spot that has Jadea all worked up, it should be easy to tell and remedy. Just switch pens, if all she wants is her nest spot back that should settle her down, if it doesn't work you'll know it is something else. I have read that spaldings can be more domineering than IB's and I saw the posts on leg color. Could have kicked myself for not remembering that, all my spaldings have darker legs than the IB's have, they are not uniform Chirpie's are darker than Mojo's even though they are full brothers, but both are darker than the IB's.
