Show off your Peas!

Jumping in to say hello and get you guys/gals finally added to my subscriptions. I've admired all of the pics and stories lurking for months and months. I just acquired my first pea back in mmm October maybe..she was not quite 6mos now I have her a 2 year mate. I've had them in my spacious 3 car garage to get to know each other and their surroundings. She is great. .never leaves thinks she's a chicken and retires to the coop at night if I don't corral her back to the garage but here they are.

Welcome to the group! Lice looking peas!

Tarp might work or might not. Wind storm might tear up the tarp and make it flap and cause loud noises to scare her. Tarp is the only thing I can do for now. Peahens will have nests in corners most of the time or at least for Jadea and easy way to tell if it's her nest is because one she fans at anything except Colbolt when they get close to the spot and Colbolt won't step foot in it he will walk around but never in it. He's so nice to her.

Tarp's what I was thinking of too. I'd say do it but only if every part that would be loose and moving can safely be strapped down. Don't want to scare her. That's not good. Boy Colbolt's such a gentleman!! They're perfect for each other!

Get it covered. I lost my first peahen because she decided to make her nest out in the open. I found her apparently drowned after a night of thunderstorms with torrential downpours. She was still on the nest and the eggs were still safe under her, but they were almost submerged in water and she was just dead, no injuries I could find. That was when I quit letting hens decide where to nest.

That's sad. Well I'm going to try that and if that doesn't work then I don't know what I will do. Thor has more than one crest feather now and it's somewhat long when I get a pic without him tucking his head down I will post it!
