Show off your Peas!

This is mostly my favorite thread- because of the pictures. Thanks this tiime especially to Zaz and Birdrain. Loved the squirrel pics.

Those of you out there experienced white Pea owners. .what is a realistic age to be able to sex them? I know most I've read is a year old but hoping maybe more like 6-9 months? ? Of course I'll post progressive pics for everyone's input but...what can I say...I know I know pea keepers can't be impatient..but that I am!! Lol:p

As always beautiful pics Zaz!

How many white do you have? If you have several, you should be able to get an idea by watching for size differences. I had 4 last year and I think they were around 7-8 months when I could tell there were 2 males and 2 females.

I have a IB pair a few years old. But I recently purchased two Whites. They were just hatched in Mid-late June so still early but I'm already leaning towards a pair because of their legs. .??
Whites can be very difficult to sex. Generally the male will be taller than the female. Also the male will get spur bumps faster than the female. Eventually the male will also get herl on his train feathers (the wispy things on the train feathers) and that will let you know it is a male as well.

My little buddy

How did you get started feeding a squirrel? Is it a wild one or did you raise it? The local squirrel population has gotten fairly used to me and come running when they see me feeding the peafowl. I haven't tried hand feeding a squirrel before, but they do get close to me. What are you feeding it?

I have just 2. And I was thinking the same thing about the legs. I know they are young and I already kinda think they're looking like a pair. Which I wanted two hens but I'd be ok with a pair... I guess! Lol

You will enjoy seeing a white peacock display. Whites are not my favorites, but I do like watching a white peacock display. They just look so angelic. I like your avatar photo by the way. I clicked on it to see the large version. Very pretty!

I've never been around whites before so I don't have an opinion about them other than I raise Black Copper Marans and I wanted to add a little more color to my free rangers! I think both sexes are very pretty though. Right now they are both fairly calm..even more so than young chicks so they have that going for them too. :D

Thanks! My avatar is my lovely Salmon Fav girl. One of my first chickens and she's still here. Love her!

Here is my IB male. From what I've read it seems he has WE as indicated by the white patch on his wings.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. In this p:p. . .am I also seeing black shoulder?

The pair rushing to snatch up what's left of cat food from the cats evening feed. This is why I have to feed them at night while the Peas are roosted

How can you tell if they are split to BS based on phenotype? Or do you just have to see what color of chicks they throw? Those peafowl are beautiful. The squirrel is brave.
