If the compost was in the ferminting process then yes it would be bad for them.

I compost things for at least a year before i use them , like when we grind a big stump we will place a ben around the shavings and pile grass clipping over the top and i mean 1000, of pounds of clippings over the summer, then i turn it with my tractor every time i am in that area after a year what you see on the trailor is what it looks like, no smell just sweet dirt.

thanks for the concern, it is a valid one, some folks might not know this.

I haven't gotten around to taking or uploading pictures in a while, but today I had a few spare minutes... Still haven't come up with names, so I'm calling them by their wing band number.

Click photos to enlarge.

Let's start off with the Opal Black Shoulders.
#50 - hen

#51 - hen

#52 - male
Getting some shine on those shoulders.

And my original four.
Casper, bought as India Blue Silver Pied, still showing the silvery gray/yellow feathers that Opals have. We will see how he/she turns out.

Hiccup on the left (IB Pied split Bronze), and Muppet on the right (Possibly Bronze or IB split Bronze).

Barring is still strong on Hiccup, and the blue and green colors coming in leads me to believe he is a male, and barring seems to be fading on Muppet, leading me to believe female.

Muppet

Olav

Didn't get a chance to take pictures of the littler ones, my little IB B/S SP is still not feeling well.. Poor thing. I moved them out to be with everyone else and she just avoids them. I moved the original four in with the bigger Opals, they're doing fine. So the IB B/S SP are in with the three "Thangs" because they're more similar in size, and so far those Thangs feel the need to assert their dominance more than necessary.

My little white Thang, Wylie, is a showboat. He (guessing it's a he) is always displaying, even doing the feather shake and bowing, and wiggling of the wings. He's very cute, and seems to act just like his daddy Wild Thang over at Randy's.

I just joined as a new member today and LOVE this place already :)

We live on a 40 ac farm in NW Missouri. We have the assorted chickens, Guineas, and Bourbon Red turks. Both of us just love the fowl and and have always in conversation added peafowl to our wish list. Low and behold we found 3 IB peachicks on Craiglist. After further research the same day we found a HUGE breeding facility 1 hour from our home. That little trip added 4 Spaldings to the farmstead. The 4 Spaldings are 18 weeks old and the 3 IB are 9 weeks old .

We are LOVING these beautiful little babies!!

I have enjoyed each and every picture on this Tread and will be a frequent visitor
