I might actually like vegan gumbo. The thing I don't like about gumbo normally is the andouille sausage. That overwhelms every other flavor for me, and I don't like sausage much. What all do you put in vegan gumbo to replace the fish, chicken and sausage?

I'm going to use this recipe and they say to make red bean meatballs to replace the sausage

I followed the link to the sweet potato gumbo. That looks so good! I'm going to try that one. DH, who is a very adventurous eater, will probably hate it because he loves gumbo, and for him it must have andouille sausage. Perhaps I'll make two on the same day, his and hers. :highfive:

I had vegan gumbo in Kentucky and it was probably the best meal I have had in a very long time. I need to make jambalaya too so I'm thinking about freezing some of the meatballs and putting that in my jambalaya.

I have a Christmas party to go to this weekend and FINALLY after 4 years they actually found a place that has a vegan item on the menu! The item is veggie orzo pasta so I'll actually be able to eat something this year :giglast year I ate bread and the restaurant made me my own special bread, everyone thought that they should steal some of it without even asking:th

I was going to say you could always make the gumbo without the meat and then just add his at the end. That's what I am going to do when I make mine.

Usually when I make a vegan meal I always take some out and then add meat to it towards the end for everyone.

People think I'm off because I cook two meals every day at dinner time. One for me and one for everyone else, but what they don't realize is that I really love cooking.

And now I'm going to go look at that sweet potato recipe because I just got some sweet potatoes

That is an excellent idea. I love the gumbo base. It's a lot like the etouffee, only starting with a darker roux, and slightly different (less) flavor enhancers, probably because the sausage is supposed to be the flavor enhancer. Andouille...:sick

I actually think I could get my husband to eat the vegan one, but he's not really into gumbo's. He doesn't like anything like stews or soups either. He's a meat and veggie guy.

Usually I'll cook a massive amount of vegetables and I'll use that as part of my dinner. Yesterday I had vegetables over white rice with Tony's seasoning.

Jambalaya is something that I'm super obsessed over, but I haven't found a recipe yet that I like
I have never made Jambalaya. Don't think I have ever had it either.

I'm thinking I can make the sweet potato gumbo and just call it sweet potato soup. Then he will love it. We both love soups of all kinds. And he doesn't require meat all the time. He really is a good eater. But if I say gumbo, he will think Andouille. :gig

I slept in a bit today and this monster is all excited I'm awake. She's waiting for her breakfast.

Hopefully she's not thinking I'm making eggs because I'm not :gig
