Sick Baby Chick

One of our baby chicks does not seem to be doing good, she is about a week old, was doing really good and eating and drinking great. We checked in the group this morning and she is breathing heavy and not eating or drinking, wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong.

I would give the chick some nutri drench or if you don’t have that a little bit of sugar mixed with water, that should give her a little boost. Maybe some egg yolk or scrambled egg if she doesn’t start eating.

I do have have and have given her some of that by dropper, along with water mixed with electrolytes and probiotics for chickens along with the egg yolk via dropper on and off since this morning, hoping to see some improvement soon.

Hopefully she will be as right as rain very soon! it is good that you are very observant and noticed there was a problem straight away and welcome to backyard chickens

How’s her poop? I’ve had many babies die from something similar, but I never know why. Best of luck

She mostly lays down, she will get up every once in awhile and is pretty active when I hold her to give her liquids, but definitely not like how she was yesterday.
