Sick dying chicks. **UPDATE 8-7 PICS pg. 19**

OH jeeze, gumpsgirl...I'm so sorry...

I don't really have fool proof ways of quarantining my birds when I get them but I do try to pen them separately for a while just to make sure I am not introducing my flock to something dangerous or something they have not been exposed to. I house and feed and water them separately and also try to take care of new birds last so that I am not tracking something into the rest of my flock. Sorry that you are going through this. Best of luck to you.

It could happen to anyone, even someone like me who basically has a closed flock. Just tracking something in from the feedstore where others have been could do it. Or the wild birds could pass on something. It could happen even to those of us who are super careful to a fault. So, please dont beat yourself up about it. You dont usually think of chicks having something.

Well the not beating myself up thing has been hard to not do. Especially when I've had to sit and hold one of my babies while they are dying. That poor little chick just kept opening it's eyes and looking at me as if to ask, "Why?" It's been very hard and all to think this is all because of my stupid mistake. It is my fault they are dying and it truly isn't fair.

Do you think they may need a stronger med? Terryimicin is not very strong, tylan powder may be more helpful, Jeffers has it and ships fast, but it is pricer than injectable. My pet bird sells baytril liquid w/o needing an RX,

I was with Tracey when she got the chick that started all this. I have to tell you how consciencious Tracey is. Two days before the swap meet I picked up 10 of her Golden Comets and they are the most healthy birds I have ever seen. Their enviornment was the best I have ever seen. She had 2 more Goldens left from the group I got and on that Saturday morning I told her I wanted the 2 that she had left at home and it was a done deal. Now, I cant have them because of what she is going through. If they make it, I still cant have them because she wont take the chance of them infecting the 10 I have. Its my loss I know but please learn from what she is going through. I know there is another post on here by someone that I read stating the same thing about segregating any new chickens you get. Stacey learned the hard way...dont you!

I will check into that. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your chicks had a similar thing happen last year is not an easy pill to swallow. After mine started sneezing I immediately seperated them from the rest and only got a few of the younger ones infected or at least that ever got sick from it. Hope everything works out for you.

Oh Stacey, I have been praying that all would be getting better. I am so sorry for all this. I don't think I will ever go to another swap, I believe I will hatch from my own chicken from here on out. This is just to scary that it could happen so quickly. And Tim your right, Stacy does have a nice, clean setup and I have seen how her birds are taken care of, so this "CRAP" came in from somewhere else and the only place she was on Sat. morn. was the swap.

No matter how nice the chick or how nice the breed, I will not buy from anyone after what has happened to my friend. Stacey, I am here if you need me, I am a hop, skip and a jump away. If you just need to talk you know you can call me. I know its best that neither of us visit for now but that never stopped a phone from ringing.

Please heed the warning in the original post. It could cost you your chick(ens).

Did the ones that were infected all die or did some make it?
