Sick hen...Impacted crop and not walking at all

Barbara, I think we all are typing at the same time

@candi80 when u can, try to get some water and calcium into her. Hydration is important. Don't worry about food.

It does sound like she is egg bound. If you could only get inside the vent up to a fingernail, she has something blocking the vent. The intestine and the oviduct intersect so the poo and the egg basically comes out the same end. Don't hold me to an anatomy lesson please. So essentially she could have an intestinal blockage or an egg "stuck" - or it could be both.

Yeah that was pretty gross I guess lol. Here is a pic of her vent. Only time it does that is when I wipe it cause with was seeping a clear brownish liquid which is probably from the bath and my having my finger up there. She is alot of alert after the third bath. Making chicken noises and trying to pivot on the towel

More alert is better.

Get her hydrated and give calcium - you can crush a TUMS to see if she will take it or dissolve it in a little water and syringe it into her. If you have them give her some poultry vitamins as well. Poultry Nutri-Drench works well - dosage is 1cc per 3lbs. Personally I would put at least 1cc in syringe, add a little water and give that to her as well.

If you don't have any of these, see if she will eat a little yogurt, but get her hydrated.

At least she doesn't look to be prolapsed so that is good news! And more so that she is perked up a bit. The warmth of the bath sometimes has an invigorating effect. Do make sure to blow dry her or she will chill, even in a warm house.
Did you hit an obstruction when you inserted your finger or was that just as far as you dared go?

On the 4th bath I went a little further, not much. I can feel the poop and a crusty like ring just as I go into the vent. Im after of hurting her so I don't want to go too far. There is alot of crusty whitish stuff on the outside of her vent when I first started this process. I'm going to give her a break and run up to the store and get her some stuff. When I get back I will try some more. I got her wrapped up in a towel. I'm attaching a pic of so you can see how big the crop is, it's between my fingers.

You're doing good

Giving her a rest and break is a good idea. This is my thoughts, but I suspect she is clogged, so once you can get her vent cleared, then hopefully the crop will start to go down.

Keep us posted.

You are doing well!

Don't be frightened to massage the crop too, but as you realise, you need to balance the treatment with plenty of rest time for her to recover and keep her warm.
She does look very weak and she will almost certainly die if you don't get things moving, so whatever you do can only help.

Well she is back to being lethargic again. She is fighting me to let me give her water via syringe, before she was letting me. But now once I get it in mouth she isn't drinking it, she will just let it drop back out. She isn't breathing like she did before. :-( think we got to her too late. Thank you everyone for the advice. I will keep you updated

They are very good at hiding illness and you are doing everything you can.

Thanks. I have her soaking again to see if I can loosen up more from inside and to see if I can feel for an egg. But I'm feeling these inside her. There is a two more hunks I feel in there.
