True, just as it was probably one person (or a small groups of hateful people) it is not all of Christianity that is predjudiced or hateful towards other beliefs.

The loudest, the rudest, the most media happy get the attention - not the ones who are simply trying to live their lives as they feel they ought to. Unfortunately, those loud ones are the ones that also are believed to be Honest Representations of said religions (or non religions, as the case may be

I generally try to take people on an individual basis before I decide if they ought to be smacked upside the head or not

I respectfully submit to you -

Mother Night, celebrated by Norse and Germanic heathens(pagans) which falls on the Solstice - also the celebration has other nights which last right up until Christmas and beyond.

Saturnalia - pagan Roman holiday, also the solstice.

Easter - Christian Holiday, also Pagan holiday, feast of Oestre (Easter) Norse and Germanic pagan.

St. Johns Eve - celebrated by Catholics and Vodouisants

Walpurgis Night and the following May Day - were pagan celebrations which were also celebrated by the early Christians (well, not walpurgis Night, but May Day was, and in some places, still is)

Now, I KNOW for sure I've missed a few (maybe many) but I got soem of them.

ETA _ I tend to differentiate between the general term "Pagan" and Wiccan, Witch, Heathen, Vodouisant, Santerian, etc... all of which could technically be lumped under the umbrella of Pagan - but whom have very different practices in many instances.

also ETA - most Vodouisants and Santerians consider themselves Monotheists, and would shudder if called Pagan

I forgot about Ostara, DUH... And I suppose I should have said that as no other holidays from Christians fall on the same days as Pagans... I wasn't thinking international holidays, I was thinking well known American holidays.

I would call myself a Witch but certainly not the well known Wiccan.
I personally like that Pagan is used as an umbrella term now. Alternatively I have a good friend who is Vodouisant and she encourages people to call her Pagan so they don't draw wrong conclusions about her.
To each their own!

Yeah, even "open minded pagan folks" often go ballistic when someone comes into a group and states that they are Vodouisant.
I can see why your friend would want to keep it civil.

Personally, I've studied most religions to some extent (others more indepth than some) and I figure if you are on a Positive Path to a higher cause, who am I to say you are stumbling?

Or, if you are on a drunken path and just having a blast, as long as ya don't drink and drive, Party On Garth!!!!

A Nativity scene does not attack the religion of others as this sign does. IF a nativity bore a sign that slammed another religion (even the atheist view) I would steal it - it has no place on the courthouse lawn.

I agree with PineBurrowPeeps & luvmychicknkids. I also wanted to thank chiknmama (Meri) for setting the record straight about Solstice.
