Sign Stolen?

The sign that was stolen says that people of the Christian faith and other religions are fools.

....its the ones that "Judge" me that bother me...and to be honest..those people are usually the ones that are really insecure in their OWN beliefs.....think about it.....think about the ones you know that are like that....think about how they REALLY live and treat others...sometimes the ones that cry out the loudest are the ones that have something to hide...take care, Wendy

Agree with PotterWatch on this one, it isn’t cynical when you are of a different faith and get harangued by a ‘christian’ down a street. Having people rant at you about hellfire and damnation, the wages of sin etc etc, in my case my reply was not that I was of a different faith, but a non-reply because I didn’t think my faith was any of this [edit] "person who was screaming at me's" business. This person assumed I was not a Christian, and in fact, his behavior came closer to driving me from a faith I was raised in than anything some sign could have said. So yeah, I’m pretty cynical of so called ‘good christians’, even though I was raised as one.

Yep, and it’s as much their right to think and say that as it is anyone else’s right to disagree. It's about freedom of expression, not religion really. That sign isn’t stopping anyone from believing what they choose, and that crèche isn’t stopping people from believing other faiths.

I refuse to defend judgemental christians however. I find that behavior to be very unchristian.

Isn't that basically true though? I mean, don't we all think that our particular religion or lack of religion is the truth? If you don't, then why believe in it?

I believe that anybody who has the audacity to think they know it all, is very much mistaken, no matter what your religion or belief structure. Why anyone would take the time to actively tear down someone's faith or belief structure is beyond me. This country was founded on many principals involving freedom of religion. To deny or denigrade one's practice of religion is just plain wrong. Whatever happened to tolerance in this country?

Bluey, you might not believe me, but I agree with everything you just said. I'm just on a different side of the fence than you are~ I believe in tolerance and acceptance as much as the next person, I want to be tolerated and accepted too though, and it's kinda hard somedays in this country. And i'm never against religion, as long as they preach tolerance and not hate~ I've just seen many Christians who have forgotten that they're supposed to "love thy neighbor as thyself".

I understand. Believe me, there are many christians that rub me the wrong way and I have issues with the hierarchy of my own catholic religion but when it comes down to it, us knuckle dragging humans are imperfect in many many ways. You cannot fault the religion for that. It up to those of us with some good sense (no matter what the belief structure) to set a good example for our faiths. Unfortunately, there will always be bad apples who think they are better than everyone else.

redhen...I don't know how wise I am, but one things my folks did teach me is common sense and respect for others.

*hugs all around* Thank you everyone for staying adult and mature about this discussion! I love you all, no matter how much our beliefs differ! I'm glad I can live in a place where they're ALLOWED to anyways!

And I'm glad for BYC, where all us non-believin' and believin' folk can come together and express ourselves in intelligent ways without being hackled for it~
