I am re-reading all the information I have saved from this highly informative thread.. and somewhere way back there somebody said all their Porcelains and Self Blues were born with chipmunk markings. I guess I could go back and see who that was. Maybe you got your Self Blue from them.

I also found out that the Self Blue Cream is from crossing Buff and Self Blue and working with it for awhile to get it right - I think I knew that and forgot it again. I like the coloration better with the Partridge x Self Blue. That was ALSO suggested way back somewhere in the almost 4600 posts..

P.S. - if those Munks follow wild-type coloring cues - you have two girls and a boy there...

Hi, Dragonlady! I have a beautiful white chick that came as a big surprise from my blue, black pair. It was born light blue but is now very white (5 weeks). I don't have any white and wondering if there is a place I can use it if it turns out to be breed worthy. It's a beautiful chick. I know you have use white in unique ways so thought I'd get your feed back.
And I just saw this. Are you SURE that isn't a splash? Your Black may be a dark blue. My understanding of white chicks is they are born white (sometimes with yellow), never born light blue? Do you have a picture of mystery chick?

Self Blue Cream is two copies of lav and one buff.

I'm sure she's not splash. :D I've raised about 30 self-blue babies from her. I often have self-blue chicks with faint parti stripes. I'm keeping track of that in my records because it doesn't show later. Here's a photo of a few of her self-blue babies.

Those sure are cute chicks!

You have some very interesting combinations there, a light blue born turned White that throws Self Blue and Parti-chick Self Blues, and a Black crossed with a Self Blue that throws Parti-chicks - which may grow up to be blacks..

AND I just read that there are "unknown" melinizers that can make e^b solid black - only it is not known how they work.. AAAAAAH! Maybe that is what turns the Parti chicks to solids when they grow up...

Sorry, the light blue that is turning white is only 5 weeks old. :D

Oh.. I read that you hatched all those self-blue from Her (meaning the white one). So the Self Blue ones are the white one's siblings?

When I start my "Harlequin" (possible name I came up with) silkie project, I plan on using my silver laced polish roo as the base to put that sort of lacing pattern onto silkies. Should I stick with black or could I use blue too? I don't mind if they are black laced or blue laced just as long as the pattern is there. Or would it be best to stick with one color such as black?
Please don't come up with a new name for an existing variety...especially when the new name is already exists in ducks.

So you are looking to create a silver laced silkie?

An existing variety? It doesn't exist, I am not making "mottled"? I didn't know they used it in ducks, is it the color or is it the breed( If it is the breed rather than a color name wouldn't it not matter? All I can find for Harlequin ducks is a breed)? I am still thinking of names, I haven't even started yet. Essentially yes, not a mottled but a silver laced. Obviously the lacing will not show like it does on regular feathered birds but they should have essentially the same pattern.

At least, everyone has told me they would not be considered "mottled"?
