Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Thanks, I sure hope I feel back to normal SOON. I'm sick of hurting every day. I can get by most of the time without saying anything or even letting on how much I'm hurting. But by the end of the day, I'm wiped out and have to lay down flat to relax my back.

As for the disease, yeah, I think that can be a really big concern. I didn't buy them at the last show-- I forgot to bring CASH (I only had my credit card) but there was a vendor selling cage clear plastic dividers. They are like 4 for a $1.00. Super cheap! So you could buy a whole bunch of them and put them around your cages and keep your birds free from other birds shaking their heads and spraying water, etc. Mostly, though, people do try to only bring healthy birds. And my friend who shows Rosecombs has this system when she coops in. I'm going to start doing it-- I watched her and was so impressed!!! She has a bottle of either Oxine or TeckTrol and sprays down the coops (metal and everything) and then she has a bottle of the Frontline flea stuff and sprays down the chips in each cage she is using. Then after that's all done and dried, she coops in her birds. Very smart! So I'm going to adopt her system on the next shows! I just bought a bottle of Oxine, so I'm all set for that. I just need to get a spray for the flea and tick stuff. Then she had the clear plastic dividers set up around her birds. She's pretty careful and I was really impressed. She's done this for years and years.... said she's never come home with a sick bird... ever! So maybe that is something to think about? I know that is what I'm doing at the next one and from now on!
Wow! That does sound like a great plan. I might be able to live with that... Please give your body time to heal and don't push yourself!

well... my beautiful splash Hachi was just killed by a hawk.

They would have looked great together

Maybe they will meet and have beautiful splash babies in the chicken afterlife

That would be a nice thought!

Debating whether to hold onto these two partridge silkies or not. They come from paint eggs, so not sure how true they would breed, any thoughts on that? Are the colors predictable from these two or would it be a mystery until the chicks are born? They are just shy of two months.

I remembered her perfectly... especially the picture of her on top of the washer with the bow on.
That is so sad! I am really sorry!
They would have made beautiful babies, that is for sure lol.
Today I was paranoid while my silkies were free ranging. We have a lot of trees so it's easy to hide but still I gotta supervise more.
