Silkie chick? UPDATED *Pics added*

I'm not sure what happened really. I never saw any open wound or blood, just seemed more like it didnt hatch right. The wing on that side is really small and not formed right. It wasnt fused to his body like I originally thought, just stuck there. Its broken loose now and just sort of sits on his side. It seemed very young when I got it, which led me to think whoever had it, didnt get it shipped in from a hatchery.

There are a few new feathers starting to grow on it, but nothing like the other side. He runs around as happy and hyper as the other chicks and barely topples over any more. Its a little toughie for sure.

You'll get more clues as he/she ages. Sounds like an otherwise normal baby and yes, hatcheries ship very very young chicks. Sounds like someone unloaded a dud but if the chick is happy and doing well try not to worry too much. Just keep taking pictures. Go lil feller! I'd love to keep seeing how this one does and turns out.

How do you find poultry auctions?

It is named Nemo

another BYC'er suggested that a couple days ago, so we went with it!

We just happened to have one about 9 miles from us. I just went online to find out what time they had poultry sales.

Yes I love watching the Favs, they are so comical. They will be eating then suddenly dart somewhere then calmly start eating again. Kinda like they just had to release the little burst of energy...It's so funny.

It looks like one of our 1st generation Silkie mixes! It was a Black Silkie roo with a Light Brahma hen. I'm not saying that is your exact mix, but ours looked a lot like that at about 3 weeks. Definitely a Silkie mix with the extra toe!
