Hi! We have two silkies. One partridge at approximately 8 weeks old and a splash at approximately 6 weeks old. I could be wrong on the ages, so predictions are welcome.

Curious to know what the gender predictions are.

The splash is likely a cockerel, based on comb. It also has the wrong comb type for a silkie. I can't see the full comb on the partridge, so it's difficult to predict on that one.

Splash need better pics, and white isn’t full silkie. It should have a walnut comb. Doesn’t make sense, cause silkie feathering is recessive so it should have normal if it’s a first gen cross... How many toes does it have on each foot? Oh and white is male.

Oh whoops I meant splash and partridge sorry!

It probably has some mixing way back in it's ancestry-- many of them do. That's why you get the occasional single comb in birds that otherwise have all the silkie traits. Not a big deal except when breeding for exhibition quality, which most people aren't.

I’m aware it’s not a full silkie. He’s just a pet for me, so I’m not too particular about the specifics. If he looks like a silkie, walks like a silkie, and talks like a silkie...I’m ok with it. ((I can’t stop calling it a “he”))

Update: I always see these threads but never see an update.

The partridge ended up being a rooster. I’m certain the splash was too, but it passed before we knew for sure.

The partridge crowed at 12-14 weeks old :)
