Last night our 9 wk old Silkie roo had the lid of our nesting boxes come down on him pinning him with his body outside of the box - his head inside the box - and his neck pinched between the supports. He's breathing, and drinking water, even chirping a bit - but he seems slow in his responses today. I'm thinking swelling? oxygen starvation? Any advice or ideas???

If he's holding his neck up OK, he might just be a bit shocky from his ordeal. Maybe you could just give him some special treats, like some chopped, hard boiled egg yolks, or even put him in a crate with food and water for a bit so he can recover. He might need a little bit of extra attention, and some rest. (Although, most chickens want to be with the flock, if they're not too bad off.)

Good luck and I hope he recovers fully,
Sharon

Thank you Sharon! He ate some egg with yogurt in his mama's lap (our 15yr old daughter), and snuggled in for a nap. When he was put back in the pen, didn't seem interested in food at all, found a quiet corner and took another snooze. We're hoping & praying for the best - but really needed someone with more know-how than us to let us know we were on the right track!

Thanks again!
