Ok Silkie experts, I've heard legends of how one can keep a small flock of silkies and not have to worry about incubating their other breeds, but since the last time I owned a silkie was 13 years old, I cannot confirm this so I thought I'd ask here. Is it really the case? Is it hard to get a silkie to go broody when you need them to be or can you just put a bunch of eggs in the nest and they decide to sit? Or is it more like, wait til the silkie is broody and then hope you have some eggs to swap under her? It's just something that has crossed my mind as it's a "natural" way of doing things. (And an excuse to have another breed on the property) How many eggs can you generally get one to brood on (a dozen or so LF eggs?) Yes I feel silly asking these questions, but was told that this was one of the better places to ask them online and y'all were a friendly crowd that wouldn't hate on an oldtimer with new questions.
