Silkies really are evil, aren't they?

Yesterday Jethro had two eggs and two golfballs under her - waiting on some eggs from a dear friend to arrive.

Just checked her nest. She has somehow managed to add 5 more eggs to her collection. The little wench!

Don't get me started. My partridge silkie STOLE my white's nest. My white STOLE my black's nest. My black STOLE my partridge's nest. This is all possible as they brood next to each other and simply steal the nest as the others get off to eat

Well I put an end to the stealing today. I have a maternity ward set up in the coop. Everybody has plenty of room, but they must stay in their own crates.

I have 4 splash silkie hens that are all broody. The scrunch themselves...all four of them....into one nesting box that is 12" X 12". I LOVE pulling them out of the box and hearing them fuss and fume...they NEVER bite.

One of them sounds like a wildcat screaming. I took her off the nest and put her out on Monday and my daughter came running to see what was wrong. She could hear her from across the 1/2 acre backyard. I was LMAO.

Oh...and there are NO eggs. We pull all of them out 3-4 times per day when there are broodies.

Jethro is waiting on her eggs to arrive in the mail. I swear I can hear the little wench tapping her fluffy foot.
She pecked me four times today. Then when I held a bowl of food in front of her, trying to entice her to eat, she attacked the bowl.

Brilliant story of your broody Silkie!

My "Maman Silkie" (the white fluffy angel of the homestead ) has just gone broody AGAIN.... every three months she is like clockwork....... apart from the fact that she refuses to leave her "house" - she will on occasions leave the house and seek out any other nests/eggs around - whatever she finds is instantly and relentlessly destroyed.... she is one mean, lean, fighting machine!

Her babies she hatched in October are still with her - but she pecks at them and screams for them to get out of the house (premenstrual Maman........ perhaps!) - I am about to evict them into the chicken coop so that she can have some peace - she hasn't lived with the other chickens for ages now - she has her own private accommodation ( well, she does share it with Tweebie her Silkie daughter ) and will not entertain going into the chicken house - that is for common chickens..... Little does she know however that the last clutch she hatched were normal common chickens.... and so lovely and friendly too!

Good luck with your demonic broody...... I know what it can be like!!!!
