I'm in neighboring TN! Gonna have few satins for sale in few weeks lol!
I do love Satins. I have one.
She is getting older, she is my instantaneous broody mama and surrogate in a snap, if I need her!
When I first got my Silkies, she was snuck in on me along with a cockeral. I paid for 4 1 y.o. hens, and got 7. I kept her and not him. Now, n my white flock, I'm down to the Satin hen, 2 so-so quality Silkie pullets and my Roo.
I am READY to purchase a higher quality flock. I had to make sure I could keep them successfully before making a costly mistake.
I must add, that I absolutely LOVE my tiny Satin hen. She has the perfect disposition. Always sweet and singing so loud. I can look at her eggs and her chicks at any time with no more than a tiny chatter. She is really special to me. I'm glad the guy didn't think enough of her to appreciate how wonderful she is.

I know. I did purchase ONE "show quality" black hen from a local Silkie breeder, probably known, I'm not naming it, because I *think* they may have taken advantage of my inexperience of the breed.
Asked MANY questions, called our veterinarian and the last question was "What's your budget"....
My reply was my mistake.
So, I went there and they had only ONE for me to see. They only had ONE for sale. I purchased her for a nice price, a beautiful, tiny, 10 m.o. girl. Beautiful deep black and fluffy girl. I was very pleased with her until I started looking online at show quality silkies. (another mistake on me. I should have done that prior to going). Then I was skeptical. I thought, well, she is only 10 m.o., maybe she will poof up a little more... well, she didn't and from 20 feet away, I can't tell her apart from my 20.00 black hens that came from a backyard flock of pure but pet quality silkies....
Chicken math, yes, it's real.
