We'll keep in touch on that one.

That's cool about the cuckoos! I know that about them. So kinda similar-ish to a chocolate rooster, as you can get chocolate pullets from just a chocolate rooster, but a chocolate hen needs a chocolate rooster to produce anything chocolate. I have a black split cockerel so a small chance of a chocolate pullet in the eggs that will hatch this weekendWell, the paint silkie hatching eggs didn't show up yesterday as USPS said (what's new) but hopefully today.
I learned a lot about these cuckoo baby chicks though. For instance, a cuckoo silkie rooster is way more valuable than a hen because the cuckoo rooster can breed either another cuckoo or a black hen and make more cuckoos, whereas the cuckoo hen can only make cuckoos if bred with a cuckoo male. I may just go into the cuckoo silkie business then!
Here's my lovelies. I marked the Odoban ones in one of the photos. Ember the third one and three others of these went to a nice lady named Laura who also took my 3 three month olds. She knows about Ember and thinks that's so cool and thinks she might have a famous chicken someday. We'll keep in touch on that one.

I'm so glad you found a great home for them!
I'm so glad you found a great home for them! What's odd is they are frizzled but they don't count as normal frizzles do for breeding for some reason. I sadly had gotten rid of three gorgeous frizzle roosters so I'd never breed frizzle to frizzle. I don't understand what the difference is but it's fine as long as I know what I can and can't breed. That's cool about the cuckoos! I know that about them. Ember is indeed very likely to be famous, what a little glowing sparkI'm so glad you found a great home for them!

Definitely fun! Oops, I meant I didn't know that about cuckoos... sheesh, I need to start proof reading my postsWhat's odd is they are frizzled but they don't count as normal frizzles do for breeding for some reason. I'm excited to find out if you get any chocolate pullets!
The chocolate hens w/ mauve roo in the pen here will make mauve or chocolate straight run, and Marsha's will be mauve & choco splash pullets, blue & splash split chocolate cockerels. I may keep one of those cockerels or just wait as I can put my black hen in there as I'd rather have a black roo yet and he'd be split chocolate.
The mauve roo and black hen = 25% Blue males carrying chocolate, 25% Black males carrying chocolate, 25% Mauve females, 25% Chocolate females. My black hen went broody yesterday so I should just put her in there anyway and maybe that'll break her lol.
So confusing sometimes but gosh isn't it fun?

I have 2 black eggs going to hatch this weekend, plus a paint egg, that could hatch black. I may use one black cockerel, mayne to make blues, or maybe with paints. I know the 5 from the breeder I got in December are silver based blacks so from what I've heard they will make great paints

No! Not okI think they lost my paint silkie eggs! They were slated to be here Monday. Nothing yet and tracking doesn't give a date anymore, just says they are running late but still en route to the destination. That $100 insurance doesn't cover if they show up weeks late and unviable.
come on USPS, get it together.
