I have missed sitting on the porch with a cup of tea.

Glad you are back.

:cafThese Welsummers are quite different than all of the other chickens I have had.
Some of the hens are very big. I have tried to find information as to what is "true to form" for them.
I have 3 different looks , the big ones have a blackish head, there are 2 or 3 that have gray legs the rest are yellow and yellow and gray,
some have deep RR deep red, some very golden and some blackish brown
I guess at this point it truly doesn't matter, I love the flock and they are so well tempered even Mr. rooster. โ˜•

I have missed all of you! I have just kept my head in the game and focused on getting everything up to speed and back to normal ready for winter. And Wow, I just cant believe looking back all that we got done. But I am so glad to settle in for winter. We will still need to repaint all of the inside, the previous owners painted 2 years ago, hahaha we have gotten use to the color, the initial shock has worn off, and we so do not want to repaint the outside what a chore that would be.

Porch Sitters good morning one and all!

52 mostly cloudy 63% humidity feels like 51 rain 0%.

Your coop looks real nice.

Have a great day!!
thank you, is was quite the undertaking, we made it just like the other one but 8X12 with a overhang so they have a dry outside spot.

I LOVE that I can watch the chickens from the kitchen and living room. We did finally get the nesting box built. I had DH make it just one box big enough for 4 to 5 hens. After 8 years of nest fights I dont see any point to having 6 nesting boxes. I will set the box in the empty spot in the far left corner. I plan on making the underneath a brooder set up.
Yesterday and just now, I am hearing a hen doing the /maybe preegg laying mown ๐Ÿคž
I have read Welsummers are very late layers, not until maybe 24 weeks.

They have plenty of roost space. I had ordered 17 chicks of those, 3! were roosters, I kept the sweetest one and I did have one chick at 9 weeks demonstrate ( even though they were vaccinated) she went lame, I suspected Merck's

Thank you, I do to. I really is a nice west facing sit. I worked hard at cleaning up the previous flower bed and replanted new chamomile, and 4 different kinds of lavender, there is a matching bed on the north/left of the porch steps. I have to keep the low fencing around the beds to protect the plants from the dogs-- the dogs have these hard " Virtually Indestructible Balls'
they bat around at a high rate of speed like soccer balls

Gorgeous. I'm working on redoing our front porch. I got the overgrown hedges cut out but winter has arrived and I'll have to wait for spring for planting and landscaping.
