I LOVE that I can watch the chickens from the kitchen and living room. We did finally get the nesting box built. I had DH make it just one box big enough for 4 to 5 hens. After 8 years of nest fights I dont see any point to having 6 nesting boxes. I will set the box in the empty spot in the far left corner. I plan on making the underneath a brooder set up.
Yesterday and just now, I am hearing a hen doing the /maybe preegg laying mown 🤞
I have read Welsummers are very late layers, not until maybe 24 weeks.

They have plenty of roost space. I had ordered 17 chicks of those, 3! were roosters, I kept the sweetest one and I did have one chick at 9 weeks demonstrate ( even though they were vaccinated) she went lame, I suspected Merck's

OH! and in the summer we have a great east facing shad porch we all can have ice tea on!!
It just looks great. Why did you choose welsummers?

Gorgeous. I'm working on redoing our front porch. I got the overgrown hedges cut out but winter has arrived and I'll have to wait for spring for planting and landscaping.

Oh that’s lovely! I could sit there in that puddle of sunshine and sip my cuppa Joe!

Wow! that is a great sitting spot, good morning sun it looks like. I love the white house with green trim! How has it done in the sunny spots? and dark green fade? At the old house i had painted the screen door a black forest green, it did fade a bit.

My #1 need was a mellow rooster, I love roosters but dont want to be run down and these have a high rating for dossal s/p?-- rooster chick #1 didnt make the cut due to how assertive he was with the other chicks, at 3 weeks he was letting everyone know he WAS the boss
#2 need was chickens that arnt anti people-- leghorns are great BUT- they arnt one to like being picked up- they run from everything

#3 heat and cold tolerant
and #4 it said they may go broody but on the low end of the scale-- I am hopping one of them will
AND #5 my husbands blood line is Dutch, his grandfather was named Cornelius and his fathers middle name was also

I got the back porch cleaned up. The very large wood rack we had , I emptied and moved to the wood shed,

Only afternoon sun there. The house faces northwest. The dark green has not faded yet. But it has only been about 4 years since I painted everything. It was brown before.
