Sunday and Monday, we got an inch ++ of rain. So very thankful!

Today, we have wildfire smoke so thick, it looks like it's foggy. I got a bit of weeding done, then had to quit. But everything looks so much healthier and greener because of the wonderful rain!

weird weather this year

up at 4:45, chickens are good, baby chicks are good, Broody #2 looks more intense this morning------------
But, Broody #3 , I just dont know about this one,
yesterday ~~I decided it would create a fight if I took 2 of B#2's eggs and gave them to #3--so, I gave #3 3 of the darkest best looking shells. 1 was laid on the 25th and 2 from yesterday the 26th. If I get another very dark hard shelled one today I will give it to her. so she can have 4 eggs. That puts a Hatch date about July 18th I think.

‼️BUT THEN~~ later in the afternoon, I took her off te nest to get water ,,, then took Broody !2 out of her pin to eat, drink, ,,, #3 sticks all feathers out- neck feathers up as high as she could get them- head down looking streight at #2 and then~~:barnie💥 she went for the jugular on broody #2, in comes Mr. Cornelius- its a bird fight- #3 was powerfully aggressive-- I am not sure I want her to raise any chicks??⁉️

that what it did here last week, the yard had browned out bone dry- no rain all of May but then last week it rained and most of the yard came back---so weird
Unlike any summer we have had in recent memory. Normally everything goes dormant in August due to lack of rain.

She would certainly defend her brood effectively. Wow!

So I figure, by the time brood #2 is a week old and I move them to the second spot under the nesting box- I can pit broody #3 in the dog kennel brooder, her eggs wont be hatching until 7-18, by then brood 31 will be4 weeks old and brood #2 will be almost 3 weeks old, there should be no reason for a fight..

Unless she is like most other broodies and just fights anyone who comes close. 🤷

Not normal, but they did eat their BK today I think they were just to hot. Rotts don’t like anything above 70.
