Well boys & girls,
everything went ok yesterday, 3 hens laid eggs, and all in the nesting box, their favorite box is the top left. I appreciate all the input, we'll see how today goes.

Fingers crossed that it was a 1 time thing. Very curious indeed.

well I think the hens are on a break, at least 2 of them. I only got 3 eggs Fri. - Sum. and only 2 yesterday

Well , only 2 eggs Mon. - Wed. I kept and eye on them in case I had an egg eater , No egg eater. I took the trash out about 9:45pm and heard one of the hens frumpeling and jump off the roost, THEN I heard gravel

roll down the slope and a varmint 🐀scurry up and go under the truck. this photo is an old one from when I had Buff Orpingtons and Barred Rocks. Yes a mouse can get in but it has to climb up the fence first. So, I closed the coop door for the night.

What is going on? Normally there are shells left if something is eating the eggs. Unless it's a snake but they only eat 1 at a time. This is a real head scratcher.

Well, I think I will do some extra babysitting and just wait. it may be just that they are 2 years old, have laid eggs non stop, and are now just going to lay randomly.

Leghorns do burn out pretty quickly but I remember mine still going at 3 years. I think extra babysitting is probably the best way to go right now. They are special chickens so you should enjoy the extra time with them.
