how are you chicks?
They seem to be doing fine. Since the adults have noticed them, and seem unhappy about their presence, they've been staying in the coop.

One of them heard me at the fence and came running down the ramp. She jumped down on the dirt, saw the big birds, jumped back up and ran inside. I swear one of the other chicks dared her to do that! :lau

The low hen in the pecking order is probably going to be "the mean one" to the chicks. There's someone lower than her now, so she pecked one on the head through the fence on Sunday. That might be why they're staying inside. I head the chick squawk, and the mom gut reaction kicked in. I yelled "HEY!" The big girl backed off and the little one ran inside.

I know I have to let this work itself out. Like I said, the mom gut reaction.

@Sally PB we are living the same life right now, but my bigs largely leave the littles alone. There’s an occasional swat i would say but i think a couple of the littles are going to take over once they’re big enough. My littles are a couple weeks older than yours at 9 weeks today. I still have an area fenced off for them that they appear to hang out in over the past few days, but I was expecting much more chaos than what ensued.
It’s hard not to intervene isn’t it!!😰

hard to believe that much joy comes out of those little critters but they warm my heart.

it’s peach apricot tea day….just finished brewing my pot then back to the office for more work!

I fuss mine when they do the same! To anyone! I yell “STOP”.... they usually listen!

I just went outside to see how everyone was doing. (Y'all know I mean the chickens.) The littles were at the far end of the run, a few inches away from the dividing fence. The adults were away from the fence, just looking at them. I count this as progress!

When I came up to the fence, the littles ran for the pop door and back inside. Maybe they don't equate the Big Thing outside the fence with Mama yet. :gig

Mine have been with the one year olds since they were 3 & 2 weeks. I kept them in the play pen when I wasnt out in the run. I turned them loose at 5 & 4 weeks I had to do like you and watch them close for a while, https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/leghorns-have-been-the-easiest-chickens.1254494/page-53

But they are 10 & 9 weeks old I dont fuss now, they have been getting up on the roost, on their own side, this week. I haven had to go out and make the one year olds move over.

it is progress,
mine still go in the coop quite a bit, last evening the older ones were to the east of the run and the chicks were west, by the gate, but everyone was fine. I noticed when I went out at 4 one was getting closer to Bob, checking him out, but not to close
