Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Snow is one thing. Ice - another. -dangerous stuff. -love a beautiful blanket of powdery snow. -can't stand ice/sleet/freezing rain/sheets of ice that follow that stuff. -do hope that all of you experiencing extreme cold and icy conditions stay safe.

-working on the cup of evening coffee. -chickens have a secured heat lamp on 'em tonight. -about 14 is the expected low. -relative to the below 0 temps, it ain't nothing (I know). To my goofy flock (that won't exit the coop when it is below 30) it is an absolute shocker.
Now, I hope the dog at least makes it to the porch to do his business. This morning the back door mat served as his potty.

He isn't much on the cold either.....

Will this help? I think we will need one here in about 12 hours. It was hot yesterday. Now it is in the The temps will drop 50 degrees by this evening. We did not even get to practice.

I AM SO PROUD OF ME :D

7:30 this am it was -25F with a -53 windchill and I cleaned my coop, collected eggs and gave the girls a nice big scoop of scratch :)

It is now 10:00 am and I am curled up in my chair with my puppy sleeping on my shoulder, my hand wrapped around a hot mug of coffee and watching an episode of "Dude, you're screwed" . This time they dropped a friend on a glacier in the Andies mountains. Kind of fitting for today, huh?

Sorry for your ice Alaskan. Would take days of this over hours of ice.

Oh, and the temp.p was a little below 32o at roost level in the coop this morning so I turned up the coop heater a bit. The coop is draft free but the wind is supposed to continue to rise with only the high supposed to hit -15 there is bound to cold creep thru those well insulated walls. Got to take care of the ladies:)

It was nice here yesterday. The temperature here is supposed to be 12 in the morning with a wind chill of 0. Then back up to 67 this weekend.

me..... 38, perfect ice sheet weather.

someone slid slightly sidewise down the neighbor drive and got stuck. The stuff formerly known as snow that is covering the ditches along the road must have gotten too soft. They are barely off..... a truck was at the bottom of the hill looking up and watching. I think we were all thinking, just push it down the hill already.....it has got to be able to just slide right down!!!!

AH! I had a son look out, they are still stuck. But there is no way I could pull them out without smashing up all cars involved.

And yep, I need to drive to town a min. of twice today... WAHAHAHAHAHAHA

ice sheet driveway with no large berms to serve as bumpers is very very pain in the rear.

Our snow is done for the time being. We got about 12". It was mostly beautiful slow falling, snowman building kind. then at the end it got cold and windy. Yuk. Temp is now about -5. wind chill about -20. Tonight overnight -15 or so and wind chill -35 or so. ( Weathermen or women never quite get it too accurate: three weather reports 3 variations) Could be worse though, could live further north! By week end it it's supposed to be 35-40? I'll believe it when I see it.

Time to check on girls, and then Hot Coffee!!

Brrr. All this talk of snow & ice is making me gulp my coffee instead of sipping it. I know most of y'all are much colder than me, but right now it's colder than it's been in years. 19 degrees and dropping. Gonna be 5 degrees when I get up to take care of the flock in the morning.. EEK! Right now our wind chill is in the negative. Again, not as cold as y'all up north, but definitely colder than we southerners are used to. (we need a "shiver" animation
