Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

My chickens have not laid eggs in months. It is time for some spring chickens.

I so wanted a broody to do it for me. Sourland's sonic broody waves missed us.

Not looking forward to the feather dust and the peeping in the house.... but buying eggs is like drinking the day old coffee cold from the pot. You only do it when there are no other options

But if I get an incubator it will end up badly. I know myself. I'll become all chicken math-ie
chicken meth.
noooooooo.

Sourland's broody message hit here hard, several of mine brooded twice and one tried four times (failed the last time because the eggs I gave her were not fertile).
So many broodies I thought I was going to have to buy eggs.
Chicken TV is fun when you can tune in the broody channel.
I put out the wooden eggs yesterday hoping to get (encourage) more eggs as the days get longer.
Moved four Australorp pullets to a breeding pen, they get a new rooster in five weeks.

Coffee is great.

I'll try that. I will need to find some local fertile eggs.
I have to assume 50% male eggs, so... six eggs should get me at least two hens... right?
Oh, I know! I'll order pullets from Ideal hatchery and then slip them under a broody.
That might be a scheduling problem though.
How long does a broody need to be broody for her to believe she hatched those golf balls and got chicks?
A week? as soon as one looks all stink eye I can order a rush shipment.
