Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Yep. -15 and chix are 2nd on list for tending(and i'm not 1st!).Furnace hasn't worked for weeks and it was 32 in the kitchen!! Hauled in water buckets last night and they melted just enough to throw out the ice in yard then fill, haul.I will TRY to remember this when I want more chicks!By the time everyone is fed, watered coffee is done TY Lord!
Wow, can't imagine going that long without a furnace. Up here we are prepared tho with a fireplace, gas stove and two portable generators to run heaters (no way to connect the furnace to them in case of power outage even tho it is a propane, hate the new electronics).
Hope you thaw out soon

how many chickens do I really need?????? How many breeds does it take to make me "Happy, Happy, Happy"??? Chicken math will not happen until my thermometer gets up to 32F.

When I saw this photo I thought I was looking in the mirror.  :old

I think the answer to that question is always "More." Haha

Hard to believe we are actually having a worse winter this year than even the "Polar Vortex" of last February. No one really thought that possible. For those of you getting your share this year, I am sure you can understand. At least we are not getting the snow that you poor folks in Ohio and east are getting, mostly thanks to the cold weather believe it or not! That's because it has been so consistantly cold that Lake Superior is more than 90% solid ice which is amazing when you realize that it has a surface area of over 31,000 sq. miles and an average depth of 448ft. (over 1300 at it's deepest). What has that got to do with our snow? Superior is so large that it creates it's own weather (aka lake effect snow/rain and also directly affects the air temperature hundreds of miles inland). When dry Arctic air sweeps down from the north, if the lake is open, it picks up moisture and then dumps snow on us poor souls to the south and east (think Buffalo NY). No open water, the air out of Canada is so dry, no snow. The really odd thing is, Superior is so huge, it just almost never freezes over and now it's done it two years in a row! Worst part is our spring. If Superior is frozen, so are we. Last year the air stayed so cold because of the the "big water" thawing so late and even then the water being so cold, that we never did really warm up enough for anything to grow.

Ok, enough geography/science lesson for today, hope everyone and their families and their animals are all safe and staying warm.

Blessings for the weekend!

Aw thanks! The hug trumped the java. 3-5 " of snow predicted tomorrow and thats minor compared to NE U.S. snow. Will have to shovel AFTER coffee!

Ah! Lake effect snow, I remember those winters..

I lived near Lake Erie, in the "Snow Belt"! Moved to Arizona, too HOT! Moved to North Carolina, Yikes it was 12 degrees this AM!

Spring, spring, please come our way!

Thanks for posting the interesting facts about Lake Superior!
