I attempted putting my little one back with the others, but she is such a mess around her eyes from all the antibiotic cream, right when I put her down, one of my little chicks came up and pecked her around her eye!
I tried to keep her separated for as long as I could so my stinkers wouldn't be tempted. I really had no idea the sort of psychological damage (thus physical manifestations of said damage) separation anxiety could cause. Tough either way. How is she now?
Improving still and feathers returning. I'll post another pic next week. So funny... this is probably old hat to long-time chicken enthusiasts! A big deal for me I suppose. I liked learning how to fix my car, and I suppose take equal satisfaction in fixing a chicken. Hoping to help anyone else who has this stupid eye thing going on.

How is your mama hen?
I am so happy to hear your chick is still going in the right direction!!! My mama hen passed away this past Friday. Her chicks were 4 weeks this past Sat. and they are doing great, went into the big coop with their other buddies that they hang around with during the day.. They still peep for their mama at night when they go to bed but it doesn't last long. Still have no idea what was wrong with her.

It must have been a frustrating experience. I think animals know when we're trying to care for them, and no doubt she was very fortunate to have had you. I think it's really great that there are some wee fuzzy-bums to carry on for her.

Thanks AR, not many people outside of here understand how we can get attached to our fowl. But we can.. and do
