Hello, I recently hatched my very first egg. She’s an Ancona duck and now about 6 days old. The past few days she’s been sneezing a lot. No discharge from eyes or nostrils and her poop looks normal. Eating and drinking plenty and getting added niacin to food through Brewers yeast. She seems healthy and active otherwise. Always has access to fresh water that is deep enough for her entire bill and more. Is this something I should be concerned about? And if so, how should I treat/go about it?

Welcome to the BYC community. Could you post a video of the duckling sneezing, and possibly post a few pictures of what you're keeping her in?

Sneezing can be correlated with environmental factors such as dusty feed/bedding, ammonia, pollutants, or lack of water to bathe in. Fungal infections such as Aspergillus and respiratory diseases are other potential causes. On occasions, ducklings may eat bedding particles, which can get in their trachea, or choanal slit, both of which may cause irritation, and sneezing. Generally, with ducklings, the problem tends to be nothing too serious and will resolve itself over time.

hi, I’m working on getting a video of her sneezing. I will attach a picture of her enclosure. On another forum somebody recommended keeping ducklings on puppy pads till they were grown a bit. She sleeps onthe small hamster bed that she is very quickly outgrowing.I take herout to spend some time with me throughout the day and let her roam supervised on the floor. Is it possible she may have eaten some dust and it could cause this. She will sneeze 3 or 4 times in a row.
