So I now have a $500 goose...Sadly, Frenchy's wing comes off next week

Here's the house being moved.

It's being moved to the far side of the current chicken run. You can see the electric fence perimeter and the shaded side of the run.

Here's the house in place with the new run extension leading up to it. The chickens have already done a number on the ground cover.

This is a view towards the chicken coop at the other side of the run.

And here's Frenchy with her new improved cast and with her ducks.

I am so happy to hear Frenchy is happier and hopefully she is healing! Tears filled my eyes when i read how happy the ducks were and she started eating again.

Looking forward to more updates and a full recovery.

I feel the same CMV, so happy to hear Frenchy is able to be with her friends again and eating ,great news. I am with everyone else that she is feeling so much better that the healing will begin now. Great pics!!

If I were you I'd keep a close eye on your daughter till they catch they coyotes.

Seems odd though that only an adult female and her pups have been seen. She probably got separated from her pack and that's why she's adapted a more aggressive hunting style to feed her pups.

A.

I was wondering if this wasn't a coy dog, rather than a full blooded coyote. Coy dogs are known for being far less afraid of people than coyotes.

No, we have coyotes the size of Mack trucks here in New England, but they are considered just coyotes...the 8-10% of Eastern Timber Wolf genes aside. This coyote is especially aggressive because she is feeding pups. I tell you, I get her in my sights and she is done, but she is tricky. She hasn't shown her face here since Frenchy was injured. She has hit every poultry owner on the road, but she hasn't been back here.

I will get her, though. It's just a matter of time.

ARGH!! She showed her face tonight, but I was unprepared. I inadvertently saved one of the feral cats that is wandering around the neighborhood. The cat was cornered next to my wood pile, and I happened to walk out my front door at that instant. Spooked the coyote (she's big up close!), saved the cat, and left the whole encounter feeling very...annoyed. The cat at least had the good grace to look thankful as it slunk away.

That's one brave coyote.

CMV,

If there are any sportsman clubs in your area perhaps contact them looking for someone who calls coyotes. Failing that you could try a wounded rabbit call as it takes the element of surprise away and when using the call and being watchful you will have the advantage. They work like a charm......I was having a coyote problem here and I got up before dawn many mornings as well as watching at dusk with no luck. I bought a rabbit squeal call and ended the problem the second time I tried it.

Thanks for the advice, WillsC. I was initially going to tether my extra roo out in the woods under a tree stand before I just heard about these lures earlier this week. I had a hunter come out and offer some advice on how to hunt predators. It was fascinating listening to his words of wisdom. Not being a hunter, I had really no idea how to go about catching something as savvy as a predator. I am borrowing the "wounded fawn" lure to give that a try.
