I live in Arizona and would like to add a solar fan to our coop. Last year we used an old box fan just to keep the air moving and they seemed to enjoy it. Didn't last long so we got a small solar fan off Amazon just to see. It seemed to work well but it rained and killed it so it obviously was not sealed properly. Has anyone used one they liked or seemed to hold up? They also have water they can stand in and ice blocks they stand on.

I direct wired one of these fans:

to one of these panels:

about three years ago and it's been going strong ever since. Rain, dirt thrown up on it from the chickens scratching the ground, straw dumped in it from the coop, etc.

In the summer they will line up in the direct path about 4-8' away from it. For 8-12 birds laying directly in front of it, or to provide circulation to the coop during the day, I think it is good.

I got this one last month for our coop. In case the link doesn't work it's blessny solar exhaust fan. We put this in the bottom of our duck coop. it doesn't have a battery so it only runs during the day when the sun is beating down on it. It moves enough air to help with the chimney effect we designed into the coop. We've had a very wet spring here and it has held up to blowing rains that soaked the bedding in our coop. Overall, I've been pleased. But, ducks are more tolerant of weather than chickens. Good luck.

Dumb question: so since it’s an exhaust fan, do you place it with the air blowing out of the coop?
