PLEASE HELP!!! This duckling hatched 8 hours ago and was in the incubator with a sibling to dry/rest before joining the more rambunctious siblings. I was working when I heard a loud quack and a crash in the incubator. My duckling had knocked over a plastic cup that held the last unhatched egg (to isolate from the ducklings b/c it is open/exposed for assistance (malposition.) anyways the duckling must have fallen and hit their beak!!!! IT IS CRACKED IN THE FRONT AND I HAVE JUST STOPPED THE BLEEDING but it is 12 am and I am freaking out what do I do??? it looks really painful oh my god I am so scared someone please any advice is needed thank you

i can see the duckling has blood in her mouth too. when i give her water with durivet vitamins in it she will drink. I have now isolated her and put the other duck in the brooder with the others. oh my god i am freaking out it looks like it maybe cracked through

I really know nothing about ducks, however I didn't want you to think no one here cares about your problem.
Is it continuing to bleed profusely, or just a small amount of blood?
Since the duck is so young, if it can eat and drink, it may just heal on it's own.
I am sure someone will be on who is more knowledgable about these things in the early morning hours and you will get a much better answer.
The ducks bill in the picture looks like the bleeding has abated.
Good luck :hugs

Thank you so much, I really appreciate this and you!
It looks as though the bleeding has let up but I see fresh blood when she yawns every now and then and when I was applying gentle pressure I noticed the tip was somewhat moveable bc of the crack. I am worried that maybe it won't grow with her and she'll end up unable to feed herself down the line. but mainly I am concerned for her right now as I know she must be in a great amount of pain and feeling really stressed and I just don't want her little heart to give out... I am being so dramatic right now, but that's what happens when we see precious little things in pain :( I also am at fault because she (idk why I've gendered her but I have lol) has Spraddle Leg so I had isolated her so she could get used to the tape treatment for it. that 100% caused the fall and ugh I feel just sick to my stomach. Woof, look at me just venting here, this is BYC not therapy ACK sorry! but thank you so sincerely for your kindness, BYC people have the best hearts and I have just experienced nothing but love and kindness from other members here. :hugs THANK YOU

Q: is there anything you would do to manage chick pain?

My biggest concern right now, would be that she is not bleeding a lot. Like constant non stop blood just running out. If that is not happening, I would try to keep her in a warm, quiet, darkish place and let her try to rest until you can get a better educated (about ducks) person to give you good advice, Perhaps we will get lucky and someone like @casportpony or @Kiki will show up later this morning.
Try to relax and let both you and your beautiful baby duckling get some rest, before you worry too much.
Oh, and this is always a good place to air questions, fears and emotions. We all do that here at some point. Just follow the BYC rules so you don't get in trouble. :love

I also am at fault...

You are doing everything you can think of to help this little duckling. It does you no good to beat yourself up on something bad that happened to your duckling. I am not a duck expert, but your duckling will probably mend on its own given time. I can't tell from the picture, but it does not sound like your duckling is in too much pain and it sounds like the bleeding has stopped. So things appear to be getting better. Maybe someone with real expertise will be able to respond later in the day. Hope everything works out OK.

@Ursuline Chick i really cannot thank you enough, especially for mentioning this in the other thread. thank you thank you thank you i am just so grateful for you and @gtaus’ help and kind words. Lil guy is in a warm dark and quiet incubator where he will stay until i can get to the vet tomorrow. I’ll let him rest and i’ll try and do the same. thank you both so so much. woof what a night

Poor little girl! Although it looks a little painful I wouldn’t rush and do anything rash. As others have said the best thing you can do for now is to keep her isolated from others in a warm place with food and water until you can get her check out. Ducks are surprisingly resilient and can bounce back from almost any injuries with a little tlc.

Thank you @Suprasoup
