My bantam Sussex hen is about a year old...she started acting weak and not active Tuesday...I separated her and brought her to the garage in a carrier. She seemed ok after this...I was giving her nutridrench in her water but noticed she wasn't eating...she would just stay laying down in her cage looking at me..yesterday I picked her up and noticed her crop was full...odd bc she hadn't eaten in two days. I gave her some water with acv and 1 ml olive oil and massaged her crop...gave her a warm soak bath with Epsom salt and let her rest...last night I noticed a sour smell and decided to get some monistat to give her. Gave her 1 ml monistat last night and another soak bath before I went to bed...this morning...the crop is still full and she is sitting down w her eyes closed...I picked her up and she spit out some pretty rancid liquid...I gave her another soak this morning and .5 monistat and some more oil mixed with it...did another massage and am making her drink water so she doesn't dehydrate...what else can I do? Her crop is still full and I can't get it to empty? She keeps moving her neck like she is trying to make it go down. Is there something I an not trying or something I am not doing or should I just count her as beyond help?

Sounds like it's blocked. I have unblocked one by massaging and slowly working the liquid out of the mouth. They can aspirate and die when doing this so I can't necessarily recommend it. Chickens eat all kinds of stuff they shouldn't. I always remember the post about the chicken that has a crop full of string after a necropsy was done.

She is still alive...barely...I did finally make her vomit...all I got was brown smelly liquid...no solids..and she still isn't doing any better..I was hopeful..was :( ...she drank a bunch of acv and water after she vomited all that up and I was hoping she would be all good this morning..but her crop was swelled back up again :(

She didn't make it....but I cut her open and she had a big blockage in her intestines...her intestines were completely black...this is the picture of what I got out of her intestine..

I'm so sorry about your loss.

I do commend you for investigating further to find out the cause (and the photos).

It was rough..stunk so bad I assume bc of her instestines being black and she also had yellow powder where the eggs usually are..it was pretty confusing...this thing that I pulled out though was hard like thickened skin...I am not sure what that was and I'm not sure what caused all the powder instead of eggs???? But at least I know there's nothing we could have done....there was no getting that to push through....
