I have two free range hens who had been broody for six weeks with no eggs under them. I put them in a pen with no nest box, and they are doing fine. I am wondering how long I need to keep them penned up before I can let them go again? Any other suggestions on breaking them from being broody??

I've heard three days, but thankfully have not had to deal with that yet

They all have 4 toes, not sure about the skin. I thought the light ones might be Faverolle's, but don't have enough toes!

Hmmm...I wondered if they might have silkie somewhere in the mix (black skin 5 toes). How old are they?
