FrenchHen, I've got an idea for you. It's not quite as good, but a fairly good substitute for smoked pulled BBQ is this: Wait till Piggly Wiggly has Boston butts on sale for 98 cents a pound. Cut an onion into rings and place in the bottom of crockpot. Add 1/2 c. water. (You could add just a dab of liquid smoke). Cut the fat off of the outside of the meat and place meat on top of onions and cook for 8 to 12 hours on low. Check periodically and turn meat over. When it falls to pieces, take it out to cool and drain on a rack. Put meat in bowl of mixer. Add a bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce and mix to desired consistency.
