They also go through red lights here. Everyone is supposed to stop.

Darn ya'll.

I'm missing my roots. I've been out of the South since 91 - moved to PA and then out to CA - but my fam-b-ly is still in NC, AL, SC & GA.

I still miss vegetable plates, sweet tea, Lily White corn meal for making good cornbread, and country ham.

My poor roomie - she's a Southern CA girl. She may be able to trace her family back to George Mason, but she doesn't have a clue. She didn't know what the heck the jar of bacon fat (or grease, as my people call it) in the fridge was! But she loves my cornbread in my seasoned skillet and the green beans I make with it.

*Sigh* Guess I'll ask mama to send me some ham soon 'cause you best believe that I want some redeye gravy soon.

Coca cola is an Atlanta institution. Most folks here who are really southerners call it Coke, but not all. We used to call it "Co-Cola" when I was a kid. Soda is soda water.

As far as my DH's rub, I'd have to ask if he'll divulge it. It involves rubbing the pork butt in honey mustard, then packing on the rub, which contains many spices as well as tons of brown sugar, wrapping it up and leaving it in the fridge for about 3-4 days before smoking. If I want any sauce on it at all, I prefer Cattleman's Honey BBQ sauce, but just a little. The meat needs nothing else, really.

LOL! That is a very localized term... DH works with a bunch of guys who say hosepipe for hose and it drives him batty (and we are both native to Louisiana). Can I ask if your DH is from the N.O./Houma/Thibodeaux part of the state? (Very southeastern part of the boot)

Actually DH was born & raised on the side of the bayou in a tiny place just south of NOLA called Lafitte. When they refer to going to New Orleans (aka NOLA) they call it going "up front". My DH's friend was in the back of a store buying a fishing license, and they told him to pay for it "up front". He kept asking them "where up front?" The girl said, "at the cash register", and he's like "but what store?" kind of a "duh" moment...
