My name is Rose, and I am from Carmel. This summer I plan on starting a small flock of egg layers as a business project for my grandsons, and fun for me. I have never done any of this before and i am looking foward to the outcome. I haven't started anything yet, so any advise would be good. Im glad more people are returning to the old ways.
Welcome, Rose! You will find lots of advice and support here, as well as a lot of laughs and fun. It's a great bunch!!

Feel free to ask any questions you want, from coops to vaccines. Among all of us there is a wealth of knowledge...

Magsrags, I'm going to be living in dust soon myself...any suggestions? We are going to blow out the wall with our chimney attached to it to build an addition on the house. We have basically been waiting for nice weather. Expecting to start in may. In the meantime we have part of the roof sectioned and tarred ...it's such a mess and I'm already telling myself to think of the end game. Sadly I'm losing my garden this year because of it . Anyways it could be worse right? Right? Lol

Welcome nature gal, I am new to chickens myself, just got my girls last October and they just started laying. My advice is to read everything and pick out the chicks/breeds you like carefully . They get big quicker than you can imagine so be ready. Read about chicken math, it's real, it's going to happen to you. Oh and lastly the people here are the sweetest most valuable resource and your going to have a blast.

Maggie, you did such a nice thing! Glad your hen is doing well. That is so nice to see.

Taking a moment to catch up. Been doing some demolition here and the concrete dust is everywhere from a huge fireplace we took totally down. Ugh.....but I keep trying to see the end result in my mind's eye. Sliding glass doors leading out onto my dream deck surrounded by trumpet vines and gardens. Oh yea........and cleaning up after this powder that seeps everywhere for years to come.

And we tented that section of house off really well. I don't live well at all with demolition...............

On a lighter note.......
My rescue silkie "Brooklyn" laid her first egg! Nice brown tint. 2 days in a row.
She is still living inside with us (vacationing in a pen outside on nice days)but hopefully that changes this week. She is a sweet bird and I am so glad we adopted her.

Enjoy the sun if you have some today!

I went to the "Chicken Coop" a local restaurant where I've made friends with one of the owners. (For obvious reasons). She told me about an ebay seller who makes the greatest aprons. Apparently, she's an elderly handicapped woman. I ordered 3. They're beautiful. Her name is Dot330. Look her up on ebay. Nice work.

How do you search for a seller's store on ebay

You have to do an advanced search for the person..next to the word search is Advance .hit it , scroll down to seller ,type in person ie dot330 and she will come up.
Can't buy the fabric or buttons for $12.50.
Unless Joanns is running a pattern sale ,they cost more than $12.00.
