Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I know all about it. I was a lineman for NYSEG. I have worked many storms. As for the tree trimming..... you are correct they have fallen behind in the Brewster district. Many customers would go off the deep end if we cut their trees (especially in norther Westchester) then they were the first to complain when the power was out. No win situation.

Yup, I know what you mean. I wanted them to take the two interfering trees out altogether but they wouldn't. I hired someone to take them vote down and it was the best thing I could have done.

Seeing the sun was a nice break today. Back in the soup for the weekend, though.

Let's hope all the wet weather gets used up by these weather systems before winter. Would be great to have a winter with little or no snow.

Hello, local NY folks! When I posted in the new member introductions thread, a couple of folks mentioned there was a Southern NY topic. Glad I found it! Being new to raising chickens, I'm wondering, do we have any chicken or general poultry shows here on Long Island or anywhere in the southern part of the state? Would be great if there was something coming up in the next few weekends. Thanks for any info.

George

Hi George, and welcome!! If you look back a few pages, I posted a show in Floral Park. That fair is next weekend, Sept 17-18. The director is desperate for chicken entries! I know it's a drive, but it's easy to get to. I promised him 21 birds. Can you please tell me how I am going to fit them in my VW????? Hence the user name Stoopid. Are you the nice man I met at the pullorum clinic in Bethpage a few weeks back?
Most of the NY shows are too far north, It's easier to go to Sussex County in NJ, that is Oct 22, I'll be there too. At least not with 21 birds. YAY! And that is a real sanctioned show. I had a BLAST last year! They put on a really fun event, I even won the 50/50 raffle, came home $264.00 richer!
Glad to see we are getting this chicken thing going on down here, thanks to Al. I still can't do links, so if you want entry info, just pm me, Roberta

Thanks, Roberta. I will definitely try to check out both of those shows! Should be fun. Since I'm still getting my birds settled (just "inherited" them with the recent hurricane), I don't think they're quite ready to drive all over for 'show' ... haven't even gotten them into a permanent coop yet. Hopefully, the kit I ordered will arrive Monday or Tuesday.

Oh ... and I was not the person you met in Bethpage, but thanks!
