Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Rosie, that's very scary stuff. If that happens again please get yourself to the emergency room. You may have also been low on electrolytes. Carry a banana and some Gatorade too next time.
Glad that you are okay now. Stay inside and soak up the A/C. And stay hydrated!
Wanna know the funny thing though? I baked 2 banana breads yesterday, and ate several slices, so I would have figured myself to be loaded with potassium. If it happens again, I think I'll go get a quick CBC to make sure everything's ok. The ER is 10 minutes away, so I can get there easily. My neighbors are home today. (Husband is out doing 2 side jobs before going into the city for his primary job) I'm wondering if the slight headache I had yesterday is related. It was the slurred speech and tightening hands that really freaked me out.
Good morning; How are you feeling today. Please don't go to the beach, stay in air conditioning and walk around with a glass of cold water in your hand all day.(drink it of course) Stay away from alcohol today. feel better.I have been a mother hen since I was about 5.
Thanks! I have been drinking loads of water this morning, it's already gross hot outside. I think you're right though-staying home and laying low is probably my best course of action. I still feel a little weird, not sure of it's residual, or if it's fright. No alcohol for me. Normally when we go out, I'll have a beer or two, but yesterday it was all about the water! None today, I don't ever drink by myself, only when I'm in a social situation.
I have to change the chickens water, and let them out, I'll watch them from the window-I have no fences, so I keep an eye on them the whole time they're out of the pen. They'll probably just settle down under some bushes and cool off there. Tonight I have to rake out the pen, but I have 3 sons to help me.

Good morning, and happy Saturday! Heat wave again today, I'm considering the beach, or hiding in my house.

The Zebra show was really fun, but the bike trip there was not without incident. Apparently I didn't drink enough, or it was just THAT HOT, but I dehydrated-badly. Very scary. We had just gotten onto the Cross Island and I got that black fog in my peripheral vision. I put my head down (On a moving motorcycle) and dug my nail into my gums to clear my head, and it didn't work. I told him to pull over or I was going to fall off the bike. We pulled over and I went off the bike pretty much head first. I got up and staggered to the grassy area and just laid down. I felt like I was going to throw up, then realized my hands were tightening up almost like a palsy position. I was slurring my words, and it was incredibly scary. I started feeling a tiny bit better since it was shady-I couldn't buckle my helmet, or put my glasses on, he had to do it, and he managed to get us to a deli in Glen Oaks. (We used to live there) I sat on the sidewalk in the shade, shaking and still slurring my words. Drank a HUGE bottle of water, and we proceeded to Belmont. When I got there, it started happening again, and I was having trouble breathing. We got into the park, and a fireman my husband knows stopped him and started chatting. WTH?? So I just crawled over to a tree and sat down. He ditched the guy, and he went to where our friends were to get me water. our group was maybe 50 yards into the park, and it took me 3 stops to get there. My BIL told me I looked like poop, my face was so red it looked to be on fire. It took me another 3 bottles of water and some lemonade for some sugar to get me back to pale like I normally am. I didn't really move the whole time. I sat there and drank water and ate a few pieces of chicken and salad. I didn't even move when Zebra came on, but luckily they were just about 20 yards away!
It was fun, and pretty amusing. My younger BIL got wasted and he was dancing and singing-all 6'5" of him. That was when I told DH it was time to start thinking of leaving. If he fell on me I'd be killed.

A few of our other friends over drank as well, and it was funny. We could laugh and enjoy them since they all had rides home, or live so close they could walk home. We've grown up considerably since our last visit to Belmont for a picnic (15 years ago)

It was just a very scary day though. I am normally very athletic, and pretty healthy. (Knock wood) so I am not used to being ill. My husband was worried because I'm usually the one taking care of everyone, and in situations like that-I'd normally be the one to be caring for the victim, not being the victim. Ugh, from now on I'm packing water in the bike. I don't know where, but it will be required.
That is scary! Yesterday was brutal though and as I grow up i find that i am more and more heat intolerant. I hide indoors like I will again today till about 5 and then off to NJ for a poolside bbq and shade.

I am considering hiding indoors all day too, although the husband and the kids went off to the pool by themselves. I feel guilty for not going, but I just can't stand the heat. It's partially the MS, heat messes up my already messed up electrical circuits, but also because I never drink enough water. I also had a stomach virus this past week that really threw me, Rosie you might be coming down with something too and that would be enough to knock you off balance.

I have to muck out the coop too but I'm thinking it might just have to wait until Monday and better weather. Plus I actually got my nails done on Thursday for the first time in forever so it might be nice to have pretty hands for another day or two. Its' not like the neighbors are going to be outside and complaining of the smell, everyone is indoors now.

I have to say that is another part of motorcycle riding I didn't even consider - getting dizzy and falling off! I am not the biggest fan of motorcycles in general, I just don't get the appeal, but I won't argue if you're a fan. Different strokes, I guess. I did laugh out loud at the bear riding a Ducati in Madagascar 3 though, it was very cute and funny.

Stay cool everyone!

Wow. Rosie, got to be careful! When we went to Elephant's Trunk last week I really started feeling the heat (although it wasn't as hot as yesterday or today). Had to sit down in the shade and drink water. It's amazing how fast it comes on!

We went to Stormville early this morning - got there by 8:30. I had a bagel in the car on the way up, and a cup of decaf, plus a bottle of water, but I still started to get all faint about 45 min. in. So I had an egg sandwich for protein, a lemonade for sugar and another bottle of water. I was okay for a while but we packed it in around 10:30. Way too hot for outdoor activities! I understand the air quality sucks, too. That probably has a lot to do with it...

So I found a place in CT that sells bantam pullets, because I was thinking that even with the rooster gone I still want a pullet bantam and I ended up calling the nicest woman ever, and lo and behold, they have a Rooster flock of just boys! She and her husband love roos and keep them as a sanctuary thing. So I get to leave Chipmunk on a real farm, and come home with one or two pullet bantams instead! Joy. :)

Here's a link to the place if anyone else is interested: http://www.clarkfarmbusiness.com/Chickens-for-sale.html
